Elle, It doesn't appear the info you have so far is correct. There are no Arthurs born Caerphilly c1885 on any census nor a birth on FreeBMD around that time. Rose

The marriage cert is essential....to prove that you have the right person You could waste untold amounts of time and effort following the wrong line unless you have concrete facts to start with......... Reg

Did he marry? The cert will have his father's name and occupation.......if known. That info should help you to trace the family in early censuses........ If you have found him in 1891/1901, it will tell you his birthplace. Reg

Can you give us some names etc? 1835 is very early for a G Grandad to be born. What do you have as fact, proved by certificates? Sam x

I have limited information on my family. However believe that my Great Grandfather was born in *1885*, and I can find a record on the 1901 & 1891 census to match him. However when I try to find the chain for his parents, I do not find either parent at the right age in the other census records.... Does anyone have any hints / tips or other methods of cross checking data. Please bear in mind I have very limited information. NAME: Arthur Edwards, believe Caerphilly, Wales
