I wonder if someone with Ancestry could look up John Wilkie b c 1878 in Scotland on the 1911 census.
On his marriage certificate in 1902 his occupation was footballer .I can't find him in Scotland in 1911.
I have googled him and found he played for Partick Thistle and then at some point went to Blackburn, so he may be in england in 1911.
Hopefully he will be with his wife Elizabeth .I cannot find a death for her in Scotland so she may have died in England before 1918 as John married again .
John died in Glasgow in 1922.

according to the 1911 census that couple had been married for 9 years 3 children born 2 still living
Elizabeth was born Southwick Durham the two elder boys were born Wallsend on Tyne Northumberland

the youngest boy Robert Douglas is a nephew and born Hammersmith

The close season saw the usual search for new players. There were six new professionals at the club for the start of the season, notably James Auchincloss who was brought in from Arthurlie to replace R.Ferguson at fullback. Ferguson had moved to Morton. James Logan, formerly of Linthouse and Tottenham Hotspur, was also signed, from Parkhead, as forward cover, needed since John Campbell’s departure to Blackburn (where he joined John Wilkie).

His 1st marriage was in Govan, Glasgow and 2nd was Kelvin, Glasgow.

There is a John Wilkie living in Charlton Lancashire in 1901, I wonder if someone could take a look at that census and tell me if it shows him as a proffesional footballer.
I have found a small newspaper article from 1901 showing a John Wilkie playing for Preston North end which I am told is in Lancashire.
