leonard she didn't know him much

There is no birth to match the death other than the one already eliminated.

If his birth wasn't registered, I'm afraid you've come to a dead end.

Is there a chance that he was born before his parents married?

In which case, birth will be in mother's name................

Did Pamela KNOW her father-in-law?

And please would you confirm whether it was Christopher - or Leonard - who had the large number of siblings to whom you refer.

If Christopher had a lot of siblings, one being Ambrose could this be him?

Births Dec 1920 (>99%)

Carter Ambrose Smith Portsmouth 2b 864

A birth cert would give the mothers name....although Smith isn't going to be easy to trace

Maybe she had been married before and 1st husband was killed during ww1

Christopher died 1996 in Portsmouth its difficult to ask questions because they were travellers they wont talk about these things im doing this for my grandaughter

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 21 Mar 2014 08:19

The death posted for 'Christopher' is almost certainly the one whose birth I posted earlier, and the parents' marriage is on this page.

Doesn't anyone know exactly when Christopher died?

You say he is/was your son-in-law's father........surely he knows ?

You refer to Pamela in the present tense - can't you ask her?

Hi Rita
Can you let us know who the witnesses were please.
Christopher's given age at the wedding makes him born in 1929/30 which matches his death cert.

While I was looking around the other day I did find this. It's really no help whatsoever but it may be Leonard.

...just to say that the house in Hamilton Road is probably still there.
I have walked down that road many times on the way to a shore-line walk to Portchester Castle.
There are many warehouses at the southern end, but private houses nearer the junction with A27.

Any other names you can remember. If we can match a birth we can find their mother's maiden name.
Have you any idea of when they were born?
