Hi All
Hoping you can help me again this time with the BELL/ASPINALL family.

I have MAUD ASPINALL b. 1869 in WIGAN (Date known correct as matches grave - aged at death).

I have found her in 1871 aged 2 living at James Street Wigan with her family and aged 22 as a boarder at Lime Street Wigan.

I cannot find her in 1881 though - aged 12? Can anyone help please? Or the family at least?

Also on Lancs FREEBMD it says Mothers Maiden Name CLEACE - and I cannot find anything for a marriage to a CLEACE and ASPINALL (Mauds birth surname) and the parents name John & Elizabeth as per the 1871 census?

I find it strange that there are no records on LancsBMD of births for John and Sarah Ann.................can't even see Sarah Ann's birth on freebmd

.............perhaps they were not full siblings to Ann and Maud..............

Thank you both for the information - least there is a variation of CLEACE / CLEESE...and the marriage does sound similar in Leyland of John & Elizabeth.
I find it very odd they are "Missing" 1861 + 1881...wonder if certain Wigan records were destroyed?

I shall see what there is looking down the CLeese line....

That's a big difference in the ages between the census and the marriage..........

Lancs bmd has the mother of Ann as Cleese and John as Cleece - but I can't find a marriage using either.

There is birth for a Sarah Ann in 1857, Wigan, but mother's maiden name is Aspinall!

this could be son John but there are 2 births in Wigan for 1859

thanks for all this - I shall study this later when I get home :) All sounds good. I had a feeling it would have all been linked to WIgan and not Leyland, but obviously I cannot assume !

I like the John at Bull & Frog Yard Scholes as Scholes is the area all the family seem to have lived for generations (and still do!).
