Borough Green comes under Maidstone....suggestion ONLY

1911 census

Person: CROUCH, G Address: Chapel St Boro Green

CROUCH, E Head Married9 years F 52 1859 Rag Sorter Lamberth Sussex VIEW
HAYWARD, L C Son Single M 29 1882 Wood Cutter Basted Kent VIEW
WEBSTER, W Son Single M 24 1887 Horse Driver Flatt Kent VIEW
CROUCH, G Son Single M 8 1903 Going To School Boro Green Kent VIEW
HAYWARD, S Head's Father Widower M 82 1829 Old Age Pensioner Lamberth VIEW

Oops......just noticed this was posted by Glitter Baby.......

Re: the son L C Hayward...........first initial looks more like J

I would also suggest that his birthplace was BEARSTED.............

And the form was filled in by a 'witness' to E Hayward's mark

There is, however, no room for doubt about 'E's' surname....it is clearly recorded as Crouch

Buy the marriage cert...............it will include his father's name........if he knew him

WW2 records are available only to the next of kin, and cost £30.00. They are not on line

Sadly I think that one is Alfred George Cock

Maybe someone with 1911 access could look this one up.
I don't think Gillingham is all that far away?

Ashley

it's very probable that his name has been mis-transcribed on the 1911 Census .............. but there are so many Crouch's and versions of the spelling that none of us can be sure what we are finding.

We also do not know whether he usually went by George or Alfred when he was younger

If you get his birth certificate, then that will give us other names to check.

He was too young to be in WW1, and WW2 records are not easily accessible on the internet.

Buy his birth certificate. It should arrive in 5-10 days.

Then return to this thread and post the information on here.

Then we'll all give it another go.

Good luck!!

I cannot understand why nothing shows up on him as he was my grandfather

from ancestry ..... may give another way to find George Alfred's family

I do not know if this is your tree, or if you know about it.

from a Public Family tree ............... not much documentation, therefore should not be trusted absolutely, but does give hints.

The children of the marriage should be hidden(shown as Private) as all of them are born within the last 70 years, and are probably still alive. Ancestry usually automatically hides all persons born within the last 100 years with no death date shown.

Note ..................

there is an Alfred Crouch, b.ca 1902, Tonbridge, Kent on the 1911 Census

This is NOT your guy ........................

an Alfred John Crouch was born Dec quarter 1902 registered Tonbridge ..... and this is the one shown as Alfred

I cannot find George Alfred Crouch anywhere other than in the bmds on ancestry

I fear that you will have to buy his birth certificate to get more information on him ............... please be sure that you do not pay any more than £9.25 (including postage) for the certificate, as some sites charge much more.

DetEcTive has given you the site to go to when ordering the certificate on line

As there's nothing obvious on the 1911 census you really need his birth or marriage certificate to find out his father's name and occupation. There are a number of possible children all registered Maidstone for the couple.

How have you got back to him - it sometimes helps with the searching?

Make a note of this link to GRO (General Register Office) the officlal source site for all England and Wales BMD certificates.

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Unless additional information is available to help us find him on 1911 census, you may have to buy the Birth Certificate. That will cost you £9.25 inc P&P and ought give the mother's name including her maiden name, as well as the name of George's father if known/declared.

Added - do you have a copy of his MC? Does it give a father's name? The witnesses might be from 'his side' of the family
