Thank you
How do I find my number

Kense

Kense Report 5 Feb 2014 21:47

Margaret, If you move your cursor to your name (in blue) on one of your posts,
you should see a bannner appear at the bottom left of the screen.

This is of the form:
http:// followed by www.genesreunited.co.uk/messages/new/ ending with a number. That number is your GenesReunited membership number.

Could someone from the Team please explain why they do not stick to their own Terms and Condtions ?

Why can they post an email addy belonging to a member ?

Hannah

I believe that GB's post referred to the following posted on 3 Feb

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/success_stories/thread/1336970

a post allegedly posted by a daughter telling the story of a mother's 60+ year search for an adopted child, with a successful conclusion as a result of the daughter's membership on GR.

It was seemingly posted by a member of GR staff

It contained BOTH a personal email address AND also advertised a book that the "member" had written.

BOTH are against the T&Cs!

Several people saw it on Sunday. It was reported, then re-instated this morning, and has now been reported again.

Are GR staff allowed to ignore the T&Cs imposed on members?

If so, why?

nameslessone Report 10 Feb 2014 17:46

Interesting couple of posts! Presumably the post referred to was reinstated within minutes of Sylvia's post above!!!!!!!!!!!! :-S

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 10 Feb 2014 18:02

so .........

............................. obviously, GR staff dance to a different tune than members, and are allowed to post their email address, and advertise books written.

Kense

Kense Report 10 Feb 2014 19:31

The T&C extract that is in GB's post, advises against posting email addresses. It doesn't say it is not allowed.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 10 Feb 2014 20:14

So why do posts that contain an email addy get reported and get put back with the email addy removed.

Double standards !!!!!!

Kense

Kense Report 10 Feb 2014 21:39

There is this in part 8 of the T&Cs
"You shall not publicise, post or advertise your contact details (including your email or postal address, phone number, website address or any other contact details) to any other member of the Genes Reunited Service except by making contact with them through the Genes Reunited Service message centre."

Hannah

"We will never ask a member to post their personal information or contact details on the Genes Reunited community boards."

So is it alright for the GR Team to do it then ?

Has that member given permission for her email addy to be show?

Hannah Advisor Report 11 Feb 2014 09:58

Hello Everyone

Firstly thank you for your concern, and for your respect for our T&Cs.

I can assure you that the member in question gave their permission for the pseudonym email address published in the ‘Featured Story of the Month’ board post to be shown.

Any family history research breakthrough selected as a ‘Featured Story of the Month’ will be published by the Genes Reunited team in order to highlight the post as such.

We will never ask a member to post their contact details or personal information on the community boards.

Many thanks

ouch!

well, now I know exactly where members stand with GR

at the bottom of the pile!

double standards yet again!

Well I am off to write a book and then post all the details on this site including my email addy.

OneFootInTheGrave

OneFootInTheGrave Report 13 Feb 2014 11:52

I am extremely disappointed with this site, from mid December 2012 till mid January 2013, we had serious problem with our trees on this site, it was what I can only describe as something similar to the kind of farce they used to put on at the Whitehall theatre.

No sooner was that supposed to be sorted, and that only got sorted after GR ceased blaming members browsers & systems for the problems, another problem occurred and that was the saving of certain details in fields on our tree - especially with the fields for marriage records. I lost count of the time I reported this to Support and in the end gave up as I was fed up with the standard response - we are aware of the problem and are working hard to fix it and eventually it was supposed to be fixed.

Over recent weeks I have seen some posts about people having problems saving details so I decided to check some of the entries on my tree, and would you believe it the marriage details for numerous individuals on several branches of my tree are not there :-(

I have over 1,352 individuals on my tree and going back and checking all of these is a mammoth task and begs the question - when will GR provide a family tree that can be relied on and one which we can be confident will function properly.

So why are the Team taking so long to deal with threads that have been reported ?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 13 Feb 2014 13:07

One suggestion, GB

http://www.whodoyouthinkyouarelive.com/news/show-dates-2014

Too busy preparing for the above to deal with this site

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 13 Feb 2014 13:13

Well Reggie if they can not cope with doing both then they should make up their mind which gets given priority. I know what my answer to that is - this site.

It is about time that the Team design something to show which member has reported a thread, on the thread, so it stops members from reporting duplicates. Some of the duplicates are down to problems on this site.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 13 Feb 2014 13:22

Looking at Military Chat board there are 3 threads which are duplicates on the first page- errors while posting but only one has been reported.

Will who ever reported one of them come back and report the other two !!
