There's a St Woolos hospital in Newport, Monmouthshire ??

Can't find a St Woods Hospital on the Isle of Wight.

I've checked freebmd.................the correct Vol for Newport ,Mon is 11a

Addendum: I wasn't looking at the actual record.............

I have now found it on freebmd and post below further info...........

NEWPORT REGISTRATION DISTRICT

Registration County : Monmouthshire (1837–1974), Gwent (from 1974).
Created : 1.7.1837.
Sub-districts : Caerleon, Chepstow, Llantarnam, Mynyddslwyn, Mynyddislwyn & Rogerstone, Newport, Newport East, Newport Hospitals, Newport Town, Newport West, Rogerstone, St. Woollos.
GRO volumes : XXVI (1837–51), 11a (1852–1946), 8C (1946–74), 28 (1974–92).

So it looks now as though it may not be the right death..................pity

I can't see the Probate record being wrong about the County - especially as the Probate Office was Winchester.

UNLESS............the person submitting the Will for Probate didn't give the correct POD, or assumptions were made erroneously...........

It could be the correct death if someone at the GRO got confused with the two Newports.

Has anyone found the sons birth, or have I missed it?

I cant see it in 1932?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 7 Sep 2012 17:39

Probably born in Karachi, where the parents married........we weren't given that info until much later in the piece............

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 7 Sep 2012 17:41

If your requests about the son are being reported, it is undoubtedly because you are giving too much info about a living person.

Cousin or not, he has a right to privacy..........

Gee

You can order from the Gro without a reference and they will refund your money if they cannot find it.
Suggest:-
Alice Newman/death 1959/Isle of Wight.

Firstly may I apologise for the late delay in replying to you all and thank you for your very generous help in this matter.

I have now located the marriage cert in amongst the debris of my papers and her father was Edward Arthur Tarry. My brother thinks she came from Yorkshire so that looks as if one problem is solved.

I am inclined to send for the death cert from Newport, Monmouth - if it's wrong will try IOW.

TO REGGIE: I admit I did put too much info up about the son the first time I tried searching and understand why it was Rrd. I put it up again without so much info and it was Rrd again although GR said there was nothing wrong. Methinks someone doesn't want me to find him but that's OK with me.

Once again my very grateful thanks to you all.

Can I ask 2 more questions please. Why does the probate say London for death place and Winchester for the Registry if she died elsewhere.

Also where can I find the 1958 electroal register for Alice as someone pointed out. Don't know the London area at all. Wouit be Westminster, Fulham etc.

Thanks again
