Hi Patricia. I am also a great great granddaughter 6 x to John bonner lds site is family search .org you will find the family tree on there from late 1600 to 1900s also if you go to the national archives site and look for his father James's will it tells you which brothers and sister go with which mother as there was 3.if you search on this site for my tree it might be helpful. At the minute I am trying to find out where in tweedmouth James bonner lived. Shirley

Well done, Patricia - admitting mistakes isn't easy.

Patricia, thanks for having the bottle to come on here and say that! I'm pleased we can resume "business as normal" and get back to helping - that's what we're here for.

I have recently taken some advice regarding my use of LDs information in genealogy and thanks to the person from whom I sought the advice, I have had my fears allayed and feel I can now pursue work with these sources.
I now owe an apology to all I offended. I should have sought the advice before kicking up a storm on here!

MarieCeleste,
Thank you for this information. I do feel strongly but I take your point and would be sad to give up my searches. I need to think some more about this. Thanks to everyone on this thread who gave me information, whatever its source!

Patricia, if you wish not to use the IGI (International Genealogical Index) then you may as well give up on genealogy, unless you're happy to do it in a half-hearted fashion using only the resources available on paid subscription sites.

Bear in mind that a lot of the exact same records which are on those paid sites are also available on the LDS site (census, parish records, etc). How do you feel now about using them on Genes (or Ancestry, or FMP) knowing that the LDS also have them?

If you feel so strongly about this then if you are to ask for help again on these boards you must stipulate that you do not want any information from the IGI or FamilySearch - you won't get far.

There are many things I don't agree with (politics, religion, etc) but I have learned to co-exist with those of different beliefs and opinions.

Reggie, as you cannot know on what I base my wish not to involve myself in LDS, I am not sure why you are being so hostile. I,too, reject prejudice. I do not know what the IGI is, but if it is linked to LDS, I will not use it.

You are being silly - sorry

I'm not 'offended' but I find prejudice really offensive

I hope that you have not used any of the info we provided using the IGI - that would be utterly hyprocritical

Patricia

Patricia Report 24 Jun 2012 22:54

I did not wish to offend anyone. It was a factual statement that I wouldn't be using their site because I find retrospective baptism, sinister.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 18 Jun 2012 22:05

I have also deleted my info - i sincerely hope that Patricia has not kept a record any of it, in view of the source

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 18 Jun 2012 19:26

Have deleted the info I found from the LDS site as Patricia may not approve of it's source.

Your loss, Patricia

And prejudice is not a nice trait

Perhaps you should ignore all the helpful info we've provided from that site.

Patricia, the FamilySearch site is one of the most valuable resources for genealogists. By using it you are not endorsing the Latter Day Saints, who have made their data available free of charge. It has been compiled to aid their interest in retrospective baptism and its sources are a great complement to worldwide published BMD records.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 17 Jun 2012 23:14

Patricia, there are no religious connotations to the site. It is one of the most widely used genealogical resources.

No different to using parish records that may be of a different denomination to one's own.

Reggie, Thank you but I won't be using a site run by the Church of Latter Day Saints

A huge thank you Lynski, Reggie and MarieCeleste. Quick work! I am fairly new to all this. I have traced quite a lot of my mothers family and I'm now working on my father's side. I missed John Bonner in 1841 as it is spelt Bonnar, but undoubtedly the same. Similarly in 1861 John was living with his daughter and son in law. Thank you for all your help. It will now take me a while to update my tree!
Reggie - what is the LDS site?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 13 Jun 2012 09:52

Lynski

The 1843 death was that of John's wife - as per the LDS site
