Jan, thanks for the offer.
Please could you have a look at the marriage between William Johnson & Mary Ann Crowder 19 10 1857 St Peter Dale End.
Think he may have been a widower.
Names of fathers & witnesses & anything else relevent would be marvellous.
Thanks in advance & have a good day.

Thanks for the offer. If you have time after doing all your own look-ups and if the archives hold any police records, I would be very grateful if you could see if there is anything about my great grandfather, George Hyde.

He became a police constable sometime between the 1881 and 1891 censuses. In 1881 he was living in Dollman Street, Aston and in 1891 in St Saviour's Road, Saltley, where he died in Sept. 1901 of phthisis and asthenia. (pulmonary consumption and general debility).

Thankyou very much and I hope you break down a few brick walls.

Hi Jan
Thanks a lot for your offer.
If you have time, could you look up the marriage of Ann Bates and Harry Lloyd in 4th quarter of 1885 please?
Any information off the certificate would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Beverley

Right then!

Marion - will do.

Sue. As far as I know there is nothing in the archives to give you any more info. But I shall ask! It might be worth googling your query, I have a feeling there is a centre with police archives in Birmingham somewhere.

Angela- anything about someone born so recently is better done online. Have you put a query on 'Find Living Relatives' board?

Beverley - you can only see marriage certs by purchasing them. To look at a parish record (as requested by Marion) I would need to know the church. I am guessing she will have found this on Familysearch site - I am not sure if their records go as far as 1897, but you could have a look.

Hi Jan,

I have found a few online, but until I can get to see his mothers first name, I dont know if I have the right one.

Would be greatful for any other ideas, as I am a newbie at all this.

Jan,

I thought you might say that - police records seem to be held by the police authorities and not in public archives. It was worth asking, though. Thanks and I will try googling.

Andysmum.
can´t remember the exact details but if I remember rightly there is a police museum & archive in Birmingham.
Pretty sure it´s only open a couple of times a month & you have to book in advance.
Sorry I can´t remember (getting old), but I´m sure you will find a link if you Google.

It's at Sparkhill Police Station and doesn't have a curator at the moment!!

There is masses to read on the website, so that will be something for a wet afternoon.

Angela, just checking - if you haven't done so, you really need to put your query on Living Relatives.

With luck I'll be with Jan on Wed. My plan is to do the pages for St.Peter & St Paul Aston aka Aston Juxta.

I'll look there for anyone so long as I can have an approximate date for the marriage or birth.

Jan - Sorry I forgot to tell you.... I'm pretty sure it's St. Martin's church.
Thanks again!

I am sure that it was on here last year or earlier that someone posted a website that allowed you to work out the church based on the Ref No. in FreeBMD.

I've posted a request in hope of someone still having it. Then maybe we can look up Beverley's couple.

I got the ref and input it. Reply

'Sorry, we cannot locate the church for this marriage. The entry is located between entries for Birmingham St Peter and Birmingham St Philip, both in RD Birmingham'.

Given that St Peter and St Paul was Aston, maybe this entry is for St Peter's Dale End.

I just can't remember what other churches went by this name in Brum.

JAN. WAVING AT YOU.

Add this to the list for looking up if we get to St Peter or St Phillip.

Getting quite excited now about Wednesday. Am working hard at the other house so I don't feel guilty about a day just for me.

Thanks for that, Jill.
I' m sorry to be a pain, I looked in my old notes and I have written down that they were married at St. Pauls.
Don't worry Jan, I can always buy the certificate if it's getting too complicated.
It's very kind of you to offer.

Right, fresh back from the coven meeting in Brum.

Beverley - no luck with St. Martins I'm afraid, also checked St. Philips for the latter half of 1885 but no sign. You might have to get the marriage cert.

Probably unrelated, but as I saw it I might as well put this, just in case:

Marriage 12/10/1885 at St. Martins.
Aaron Bates bachelor, 21, occ. Tube Drawer. Father John Iron Plate worker.
Fanny Elizabeth Wareham spinster 23. father James occ. painter.
Address for both Moor St.

Marion - not sure this is going to help you, but:

Marriage 19/10/1857 St Peter Dale End

William Johnson bachelor of full age occ. porter. Father William John occ. ?plater?
Elizabeth Crowder spinster of full age. Father John occ. ??Fitter??
Witnesses Samuel Walker, Mary Ann Ravenhall.
