Roy

I agree with you ................. time wasted that should have been spent on getting the site to work as it should, and as it once did.

I have said before its just a word search,

if you go to Tools on the left, then click on quick search and then enter your surname or any other word, and click search it will return exactly the same result as the discussion fiasco

I have 669 matches on the home page and the same threads on the quick search

The difference is that with quick search you can enter any word/name or place

waste of time and time that GR could have spent on getting this site working as it should

Because my surname is part of my board name it seems that because I posted on a thread about X, Y or Z that that has become a 'discussion' about my surname.

Mr Magoo - I have found some, but most of them are not my lot.

Mine came from Ireland, some settled in Renfrewshire...... others went off to the US............ and others........ who knows? The surname varies.... Morning, Murray, Murey..........all sorts. It's also the middle name of an uncle and an aunt.

Try putting it in the (old) LDS site....... some amazing names!

I don't have GR on a favourite any more, I always type the addy in the http box......... so I go straight to the Home Page. Gave up on Favourites.....fed up with the Error Message.

Just goes to show how many actually see the home page.

Scozzie if you G**gle...."morning"surname....you will get f/h sites

Hi Cynthia

Sorry, I missed your post.

I sent a PM to Alex (just after I added to the old thread). He has opened it, but not responded.

I have quite a bit of info on that family. The daughter (Jane Sneddon b1876) of the Ann he was looking for married Robert B, the son of my umpty uncle (Robert is my 1st cousin 3t removed).

One surname I don't have much luck with - "Morning". Google for that and you get every one with "Good Morning", "Morning Cloud", "Top of the Morning" etc - everything you can think of, but not much on the family.

DonĀ“t you think that Genes would do better to get the basics of the site working efficiently before coming up with a waste of time like this?
Or is it intended to replace Hot Matches?
Either way..........

I removed my surname from my tree for myself and my parents, but I entered my name in the keyword on Find ancestors and found 10 discussions!!!

One is from me on a thread with 36,000 posts so would not be able to find that again lol
seven from someone who's family may be distantly related, but not found where yet
One who's middle name was my surname
and one who just said looking for *****

I found one that had been raised, presumably as the result of this "discussions" idea .............

I wonder how many records there are for the surname "Unk" because I have a lot of them in my tree too.

Hi Scozzie,

Did you see my advice on the Ann Kerr thread?

You probably won't receive a reply from Alex because the thread is over 3 years old and Alex may not be looking for replies if, indeed, still a member. It was a prime example of my earlier post above.

There aren't 'discussions' taking place anywhere much......this 'new' facility simply takes you to old threads which happens to contain the name you are looking for.

Very misleading, especially to new members and reminds me of the Surname board we used to have before the last bout of changes on here :-(

There are also over 1000 for the surname "Rellie"! I checked one and it didn't have that name in it at all - just the more posher "Relative", who may or may not be connected.

There are none for my surname :-(

Maybe it could be that I do not have my name in my tree just some random letters instead ?

There are over a 1000 discussions about where I was born though ummm

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH

That explains it!

I have spent much longer than usual sending out my messages this afternoon.

Many of them were to new people who had replied to old posts.

I wondered why folk had started to dig up old posts again.

Now I know..........

I agree with PP........a con and a waste of time in most case.

I repeat

ARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Nothing about Kentish Maids ;-)

I removed my tree during the site's instability; if "the tree" function works again properly one day, then I may think about inputting some of my direct ancestors' names again.
