not able to find what Im looking for, only one birth registered on Free BMD, but not right one, thought perhaps i may be able to find baptism but having no luck. I cant think why birth wasnt registered, have a feeling Im in for a suprise. It should have been about 1870-73 in Fenton Staffs, name of George Deakes, I know there is one but its not the one I want. |

Looks as though there are two Georges. There are also three births under Deaks on FreeBMD but not make sense. I'm fairly certain at that time that births didn't have to be registered. All sorts of possibilities after that. |

I have the birth cert for George Deakes, and also the marriage cert, both have father Samuel. The George I am trying to find is my grandfather. I dont know much about him other then he was born within the years 1870-1878,and I believe it was in Fenton Staffs, this is from family. he joined the army and was married twice, the first one could have been anywhere, but his eldest child was born in Malta, He married my Grandmother in India in 1912, and was about 20 years older then she was, sadly he died in 1945 as a prisoner of war in Singapore. I think its possible that he was the other George found on census, son of Aaron and Lavinia Deakes, as he called his first daughter Lavinia. his mother is down as louise in 1881 but that would be wrong. There is a George Deakes 1891 census in Lichfield age 18 and is a Militia man. Can you see why Im thinking he could be my George?. I will just have to keep searching I do have an idea whats happened but dont feel I can say without being sure, I wouldnt want to upset other family who are sure I am wrong. |

I see why you think this other George must belong to you. |

The George Deakes born 1872 appears in censuses with parents Samuel and Elizabeth in 1881 and 1891, and then married to Gertrude in 1901. So surely can be discounted? |

George's sisters Mary and Lavinia seem to have been registered in Q3 1874 and Q3 1876 respectively. That would put George's registration at Q4 1873 latest and that is the same quarter that Lavinia Hughes and Aaron got married. There is a George Henry Hughes registered in Q4 1873 who is a possible candidate. |

Hi to all, the certs I have give Samuel Deakes as father (marriage) and Samuel Deakes and Elizabeth Sellers parents (birth). The possibility that George was born a Hughes is what I am thinking and have sent off for the most likely cert for his birth. The story with Lavinia is very sad, in 1871 she is with her husband? Frederick Hughes and 2 daughters Lavinia 4 and Emma 2, both children died in July of 1871, I have the certs (Scarlet Fever) but after this Frederick appears to have married, I am sure I have found him on 1881 and 1891 census with a Rosetta Hughes and children. incedently I also think I have him in 1861 with another women this time a Charlotte. I think perhaps poor Lavinia said she was a widow to avoid talk , I can only assume that the death of both girls within days of each other caused the relationship to end. I am very grateful for all your imput, it really does help to know others consider this possible. by the way I have not been able to find a marriage for Frederick to Lavinia or Charlotte, but he did marry Rosetta but not in Staffordshire, but Yorkshire. :-S |

I have just found a marriage for a Frederick Hughes to a CharlotteTatton. in Prescot Lancs in 1860, and there are lots of deaths for Charlottes all over the place. will have to check censuses see if they are the ones I have found in 1861 or not.. :-S |
