Hi all,

Does anyone know if there are any discounts anywhere for Ancestry at the moment.

I've just rang them as my subscription runs out on Friday and I was hoping to be offered a bit of a discount but was told no discount available.

My sub runs out at the end of this month too, so I was hoping that I would get a discount like I did last year.
From what you say, it doesn´t sound too promising & I was told they couldn´t deal with membership by e mail, only over the phone.
Quite an expensive exercise for those of us who live abroad.

Jonesey had a thread about it just before my sub ran out last year. From what members were saying, it sometimes depended upon who answered your call as to whether you were offered a discount or not.

I'm really hoping there's a discount to be had somewhere as I will really miss using it.

If no discounts are currently available think of possibly purchasing a copy pf Family Tree Maker 2011 Platinum edition which comes with 6 months Ancestry membership included. This is shortly to be replaced by the 2012 edition so 2011 should be heavily discounted at sites such as Amazon or Avanquest.

Yes Chrissie I wrote on that thread last year. I rang and a very stern woman said no discount. I told her that I knew a lot of people were receiving one, she went off and come back and offered I think 20%. but said I would not receive one again. Now feel scared to ring again lol.

If anyone does get one please post.

Carol ;-)

Thanks Jonesey I will take a look.

You should ring Carol, the worst that can happen is that they say no.

Have every intention of asking again, particularly as FMP offer loyalty discounts ever year to their members.
This isn´t a cheap hobby & a pension doesn´t go very far.
Don´t want to buy Familytreemaker again as I already have the 2010.

Can you only use Familytreemaker to build one tree or can it be used several times.

At £28-£35 including 6 months Ancestry Premium membership (Worth £77), FTM2011 Platinum is still a good deal just to get the Ancestry membership. No need to install the software if you do not wish to do so.

FTM can be used to create as many family trees as you wish. You can have several at the same time if you wish.

Yes Chrissie will have to pluck up courage, but I can still hear that womans voice reprimanding me.

On other hand might try FMP as I have heard that sometimes you can find things that have been transcribed wrong on Ancestry.

I got 10% in Feb for premium when I phoned them (its a Freephone number from the UK)

Then a few weeks later I wanted to upgrade to world wide but they would'nt give me anything so I did'nt bother.

I rang them as my membership is due for renewal in 10 days. I said I was a National Trust member and they are offering a massive 25% discount to Ancestry.
The young man said that was for new mebers only so I said that as a member of Anc for 6 years I felt let down by the treaement existing members get and pointed out that FMP give a loyalty discount of 10%.
After a bit of chat I finally got 10% discount off my renewal.
If you are not offered a discount ask to speak to a superior.

Well that is a lot of food for thought. Seems you really do have to bully them, which depends what mood I am in. Normally I can stand my ground but sometimes feel vulnerable. Debs will use that ploy.

I rang on the o8oo free call from New Zealand last week. I had made a misread initially when I took out my sub & I realised my error when I went to renew. Explained my mistake straight away. The operator questioned me carefully to establish my needs & I received exc. assistance to get the most appropriate sub. deal It was certainly better than what I had.Was told that it is surprising more people don't maximise usage of the several free trials available. When the order of these is chosen carefully it can be a big saving before one has to start paying out big time.

Even though I was calling from half way around the world the staff member took her time to ensure I was happy with her suggestions, etc. The whole call took 25mins & I wasn't hassled at any time. A very pleasant experience.
