Hi all,

I hope someone out there is able to help me. I never knew my grandparents on either side of my family and my father passed away when I was young. I am really keen to find out about them but I've come stuck. I know one of my grandfathers date of birth and where he grew up but I don't know how to find his parent as I have no clue of their names. Im in the same predicament for other members of my family...I'm unsure how to find their parents. Please could someone help me!? I would really appreciate it.

You need to start with what you know for certain and work back steadily. For example, if you can locate the birth records of your parents you can get the birth cert and find out their parents' names that way. If this too difficult - maybe their names are very common - then if they married the cert will show their fathers' names.

Do try Freebmd for births, marriages and deaths 1837-about 1950:

www.freebmd.org.uk

if you want to give your father nor grandfather's details we can have a look for you. (I assume your grandfather is deceased also).

If you can get back to before 1911 then you could find the on the census. This is available on this site. It is also available on www.findmypast.co.uk and www.1911census.co.uk

Hello and welcome to the boards.

As well as the above advice, you can also try putting the names you are researching into the Search Trees box above (in the dark green bar) to see if anyone else on this site has your family in their tree.

If you find a connection, you can contact the tree owner.

Always remember to verify any details you may received to make sure they are accurate. Regards. Cx.

Thank you all for your advice. It's kind of you to take time out of your day to reply to me. I will have a go at the things you've all suggested and see how it goes. I may need to pick your brains again soon though. Thanks again xxx

Hi, I've been on the freebmd website but I still can't find any of my relatives (I'm not very good at this). If anyone has some spare time to help me I would really appreciate it.

I'm looking for....

1) Parents of my grandfather. His name is David E Trick and he was born on 9/06/1930 in Abercwmboi. He married once in 1951 to a Sylvia Tolley and again in 1979 to my grandmother Rowena Cook. I believe he was one of seven children.

2) Parents of my other grandfather. His name is William. R. Griffiths and he was born in 1930 and comes from the Rhondda. He married my grandmother in 1953 in Pontypridd and moved to Porth where he had 4 children. I don't know much about him other than he died very young due to cancer.

Thank you so much. If anyone wants to see my tree I am willing to share.
xxxx

Wow, I'm overwhelmed with everyone trying to help. Thank you soooo much!

Shirley I think you've found my great grandparents!!! I believe that Mary Eynon and Henry Trick are my grandparents and that I'm also related to Horace and Alfred. (I don't think Elizabeth is a relation). Thank you so much for finding that out for me.

Would Rhondda come under Glamorgan? or Pontypridd? His name is William Richard Griffiths and I think he died in his late 40's.

THANK YOU ALL for all your help. It's so nice to know that there are people out there willing to help! :D Thanks again
