I have my grandfather as married in 1917 aged 22 so he would have been born in 1895 but on his gravestone he died in 1959 aged 71 so that would mean he was born in 1889. He is in the 1901 census as being 5 so his birth would be 1896. I cant find him in the 1911 but i know he was in the army so perhaps thats why? I know that births ect were not always correct but is 6 years alot? I want to send for his birth cert but having trouble pinning down the correct one. His name is John Robert (surname) so i have found births for 1894 &1898 & then another one for 1895 but name around other way Robert John & the twist is he was known as Bob.
I am in need of help please

Why not give all details - where he is and with whom 1901 - so we can have a look? I assume you know his father's name from his marriage cert.

So Constance knocked a few years off her age. Could be whoever registered John's death didn't know when he was born.

It would have been one of his children that registered his death in 1959.
Like me they probably thought his name was John Robert too.

Yes i remember i had found Daisy living with Annie Mays husband & family & Annie May was a housekeeper in Salisbury to a Mr Glass whom she later emigrated to australia with & had more children.
I think John sorry Robert jnr was in army but i cant find Robert snr & wife & any of the younger children.
