My first thought was, could her name have been Florence May Smith before she married a Harry Instone Noble, but I can't see a birth for a Harry Instone Noble.

Have you any idea roughly when she might have married or the names of children that you could work backwards from? Going by the dates, it seems like her death was registered as Florence May Noble. If the informant on the death certificate is a family member, it might give you a hint.

Leila,

Go to FreeBMD

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Select births, put in Inston for the Surname and then Smith for Spouse/Mother surname.

There were 8 children. The first one died.

There's a son Thomas H Inston. Is this the son Henry you are looking for?

Only Emily, Thomas and Ronald made it past their 1st birthdays. That's a lot of children to lose.

Hi there everyone i'm so sorry but Rose found out that my great nan had 8 kids and only 3 survived how do you find out that info???? how did you find the five that died and their age ???? so confused

Thankyou

SylviaInCanada Report 1 Mar 2011 20:55

Leila

Rose found out that information by looking on the 1911 Census ................ people filled that one out by themselves, and they had to put how many children had been born alive, and how many of those had died.

They then had to name all children who were still living at home .. from what Rose posted, that was Emily, Thomas and Ronald

To find out the information for the 5 who died you will have to look at www.freebmd.org.uk, a free site, and see if you can identify possible children born in the correct area, then look at deaths and see if you can identify ones born who died within, say, 10 years.

Mother's maiden name is shown for all births registered after mid-1911

so you enter Instone in Father's surname, gran's surname in mother's surname, years Mar 1911 to Dec 1935 (to get a good overlap of years), and county (from drop down list to the right)

EDIT:-

Rose actually found the 8 births by doing what I did, entering the names in freebmd birth search, then by comparing those births against the deaths.

I got confused with my dates!!

I'll give you one example to help you along

The first child was:-

Births Dec 1914 (>99%)

Inston Florence M Smith Birmingham 6d 529

I then clicked on Deaths and asked for deaths of Inston between 1912 and 1935

Deaths Dec 1914 (>99%)

Inston Florence _ 0 Birmingham 6d 365

Looks to be the same child

To see any more information than that, you have to buy the certificate from www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Each one will cost £9.25
