Adoptions did not become legal until some time in 1927

all adoptions before then were casual ............ members of the family, friends or stragners just taking over the care of the child.

Thus there will be no papers to find.

Check National Archives to see if you can find anything on there about naturalization

However ... I note that on the 1891 Census, the image says for Henry that his birth place was "Holland, British Subject"

this may actually mean that he was born in Holland of British parents .... in other words, he had no need to be naturalized.

I'm not sure adoption was a legal process at that time, the child took the new husbands name ?

I have seen some details about naturalisation and army records on National Archives

It helps if you give some details

Hello everyone.

I have just found out that I have been searching the wrong family tree. Over ten years of searching etc for absolutely nothing. So now I am onto the correct one.

Emily Alexandra Samuel gave birth to Constance Grace Samuel 1904. No father on the birth cert. Emily married Henry Boreham 1916 and supposedly adopted my Grandmother Constance Grace. Where would I find anything of the adoption please?
Emily’s father, Henry Samuel was born in Holland but was a British subject, and a Stockbroker in London.
Where would I find information on people being Naturalized from Holland please? And is it online?

Henry was also a private in the 14th South Wales Borderers. Would there be somewhere I can find info on this as well.

Thanking you so much

Vanessa
