What address is given for the birth and parents' address? Is that a workhouse? After 1834 Suffield workhouse came under Erpingham Union.
For more info this is also a useful site http://www.workhouses.org.uk/

Just wanted to add that in certain areas, inmate doesn't always mean they were in prison, hospital or a workhouse.

In an area of Scotland where my ancestors lived, it just meant that they lived in the same household as the head of the household. Not sure about your area though :)

Hi,
Try this website for information on the Workhouses:

http://www.origins.org.uk/genuki/NFK/places/s/suffield/

There is a wealth of information on this site regarding Suffield, including transcripts of Parish Records and Censuses. On the 1841 Census the father, William, is shown as being an agricultural worker but there is no indication that the family were in the Workhouse on this record.

Hi

I received a birth certificate today for Eliza Slaughter, b1838 in Suffield, Norfolk. The informant was Elizabeth Slaughter - I believe she was the eldest sister. The mother and father are Samuel and Mary (formerly Sexton). Elizabeth has Inmate, Suffield written underneath her mark.

Do you know where she might have been an inmate (a workhouse perhaps?) and possibly point me in the direction where I could find more information please?

Hope someone can help!

Thanks
Jane
