All the surnames in 1911 should be Coward apart from Fanny.

I found them looking for his twin sister Olive. I noticed there was an Olive S M Clarke and realized that must be the family. I don't have access to the images on 1911.

All the names from 1911 match births for the Cowards.

The children are definitely all Cowards on the image - mis-transcribed as Fanny Clarke is above them on the list. The transcriber has taken them as her children not Jessie's (a bit careless I think!).
Full marks to Rose for this find. Not sure if she has done anything, but I've submitted corrections to FMP so hopefully they will be recorded in their correct name.

I can't view the 1911 image but I think the children may have been mistranstranscribed as Clarke because Fanny Clarke is sister to Jessie Coward.

I think you've got to get the marriage cert of Alfred William Coward to May Emily McDowell. It might not give you stunning information, but I wouldn't like to proceed without it.

Rose are you sure you've got the same family in 1901 and 1911. Where is Jessie E. A. Clarke in 1901?

Rose, if Lydia married Ernest Coward in 1893 why where the children named Clarke?

Found them because he had a twin sister called Olive Susannah M.

To be honest Joyce I am at a loss. I know it's not cheap, but I would get that birth cert. (Make sure you don't pay more than £9.25!). You are lucky in that the name isn't common and was easy to trace, so you can feel confident you have the right record.
If you do, let us know what you find out.

He did die young 16/10/1939 as hes buried in a war grave in portsmouth

I agree Joyce, and you would expect to find him with that unusual name, but really no sign 1911 unfortunately. Very frustrating!

Born Dec 1905 his birth year should show as 1906 on the 1911 census ie his age would be 5 at the last birthday,Still can't see him though!!
