Has anyone else noticed that when you receive a batch of " Hot Matches" and you then send a message to another Member on "Hot Matches", underneath the message it just says, "Allow this member to view your tree"? It seems that we are not given the choice of Not allowing the member to view our tree, if we so desire anymore. Has this happened to anyone else?

Is there a little box next to the statement with a tick in it? If so just remove the tick.

hi Kath

No. Nowhere on the screen is there a box like there used to be, and I have scoured the screen elsewhere just in case... It's so frustrating.
Sorry about the delay in getting back to you, I'm in the middle of making our tea. so I'm popping back every so often... (I'm in NZ.)

Cheers.

I haven't sent messages to any "Hot Matches" for ages so I can't remember exactly what the page is like. The next time I get some I'll try to remember to have a look.

I'm in the middle of getting ready - I haven't got myself downstairs yet - so I'm popping on and off the computer at the moment too (in England).

Joy, just had a look and the tick box is definitely there, for me at least - have another go, it might just have been a blip.

Must be something wrong with your Hot Matches, Joy.

Maybe you should contact GR as I have just checked my Hot Matches from the other day and next to Allow this member to view your tree is a green tick.

When I clicked on the tick it disappeared.

Hi Jan

No it's definitely not there. It used to be, but not now. It's only happened on this last lot of Hot Matches. I've been onto Genes about it, but they say they can't "duplicate" what is happening to me... They suggest I try going onto Internet Explorer 8, but I can't see why I can't get it on Vista like I have been doing for years now. I'm wondering if Genes have updated this site as they seem to be doing changes to a few things?

It's so frustrating.

Cheers

If you look at your list of contacts, does it have the option to allow your tree? In which case you should be able to close it too.

It is on the right hand side of the screen where the purple box appears for you to type your message. The tick box to allow / disallow others to see your tree is at the bottom left of this.

One thought, if you haven't cleared your browser temp files for a while they screen may not be loading fully. That can occasionally cause problems with sum of the buttons or feature appearing to be missing.

Incidentally Internet Explorer and Vista are not the same thing. Vista is your Operating System, Internet Explorer is your Browser. IE8 is the latest browser version, and although I have it installed I prefer to use Firefox for day to day use as it does seem to be less problematical.

First thing to do is to clear your temp file cache, then shut everything down and re-start your PC.

Hi,

I've just been back onto my "Hot Matches" pages and clicked on a member who I haven't contacted yet, and as I said before under the "Message Box" it says "Allow this Member to View your Tree".

But up above where it gives you directions on how to fill in your message etc., it still says "Use purple box to send your message. Remember, if you do not want this person to see your tree, un-tick the box above the "Send Message" button.

There is no button on mine, just the words "Allow this person to view your tree"!

This is why I would like to know if it has happened to anyone, or if everybody else is using internet Explorer "?

Cheers.

I don't have your problem but I can think of a way of getting around it until you get it sorted.

Following on from brummiejan's post

Send the message.
Then go to contacts and click on the person you sent the message to and remove the permission to view your tree.

Hope it's sorted soon!

Hi Chris,

Thanks for that. If the message has already gone though wouldn't the message go through to them by the time I've found my contacts though?

Cheers

Yes it would - my idea was the same, send message then immediately go to contacts and cancel access.
Might be an idea to try this out with someone you are already in touch with and has access, let them know what you are up to first though!

It isn't a GR issue on this occasion, otherwise everyone would have the same problem.

Left of the words, Allow this person to view your tree, have you got a little white square box?

Beneath the same words, have you got a button marked Send Message?

If not, then the page is not displaying correctly in your browser. Clear down and re-start as I suggested.

Hi Inspector GreenPen

I was wondering if anybody else was having the same problem as myself.
Definitely no Box. but I do have Send Message.

I've been speaking to my husband about clearing the Temp Files and I shall do it tomorrow as its nearly my bedtime.

Thank you for all your help, and to everyone else, thank you too.

Cheers.

Perhaps you had a problem like me last month
as ive clicked on family tree in outlook express this afternoon and everything is working fine

Hi Barry and Joyce,

Yes, it seems that its only me that is having the problem?

I know this may sound stupid, but how can I get onto Outlook Express.

We were woken up this morning by a 4.5 Quake, so maybe when I go into Hot Matches again it may have solved the problem for me - although I doubt it!

Cheers
