Can anyone tell me if it is possible to search for a Death with the persons occupation being a "checking point"

No definite other info than that (that's if it's true on the marriage cert I have for his son)

I did think the GRO wer`nt allowing the use of checking points anymore, I`m sure someone else on here will be able to confirm if thats true.

However...maybe if you ordered from one of the local registry offices they may do that for you.

Why don`t you contact the office for the district you want and ask them first. ?

No, you can't search yourself using occupation as a checking point and Nicky is correct in saying that the GRO won't do checking points any more.

Some local register offices will look at certificates for you before you buy but others won't.

The trouble with occupations is that they could so easily change, especially in unskilled people.
Even in more modern times, I know someone who had 2 sons.
When the 1st was born, the father was in Merchant Navy, when the 2nd was born his Dad was a policeman.

Do you have any idea of when the person died and in which area? Do you know when they were born so that age at death can be checked in the index?

EDIT - I agree with Gwyn. My grandfather in the early 1900's had three children - in 1908 he was a Hotel Waiter, 1910 he was a Fish Dealer and 1912 he was an Insurance Agent.

Aboslutely nothing on him at all.

As mentioned only info is from marriage cert of his son.

It is actually info on him (son) I am trying to trace back. Have been trying to do this for the last 6 years or so. Placed info on here many times but unfortunately no luck.

What date are we talking about? Is it long enough ago for them to be on a census together? When was the son's marriage?

Son was married in 1922. Father showing as deceased

Son would have been born 1900 . No place or birth no mothers name to make a search - a complete blank.

Arthur Watson married 1922 age given as 22.

Occupation Traveller

Residing at the brides home

Withness S G Thelford ( have never found anything on this person either)

Father Edward Watson (deceased) Occupation Ship Steward

That the lot folks I have absolutely no other info.

Still residing at the same address in 1927 as per the Electoral Rolls

The marriage posted is the correct one. Charman/Watson West Ham District.

Address 35 Langtthorne Street,

There is only one witness name showing the other witness is shown as
H Charman (father??) + his mark (assuming that H Charman could not write but guessing) This is how it appears on the marriage cert.

Have amended my heading as I was wondering if anyone has found a person by going via the Pensions Office.

I think in the above situation it nay be an answer to go forwards to be able to actually work backward again - if that makes sense?
