Thanks K

I have taken a look on ancestry and found it an interesting read, it appears he was in trouble quite a bit during his time in army. He was often in trouble for being drunk early evening, 1 being drunk and getting himself into a fight. On other occasions he was absent without leave for a few hours on a couple of occasions after having a tattoo lol. I noticed that one time he went AWOL was when he was supposed to playing in a band in the officers mess but walked out. This one has to be the most interesting records I have read of a relie.

Thanks again x

Found this on Ancestery that lists his birth place as Kildare as in 1911. He enlisted in Madras

Name: James Peter Broster
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1858
Age at enlistment: 15
Birth County: Kildare
Document Year: 1873
Regiment Name: 21st Regiment. of Fusiliers
Number of images: 15

Lists him as 5ft 1 3/8 in with light brown hair and grey eyes

Appears to have requested to be discharged in 1884. If you don't have access I can email you the images if you send me a pm with your email

PS - Based on tree on Ancestry it looks like his father was in the army and came from England so there may not be a problem with Irish Records,

Its interesting that Florence's birth place differs from 1901 hampshire to 1911 Glasgow Scotland.

I was thinking that I am no going to get any further back than James Broster as he was born in Ireland lol I have heard that tracing relies in Ireland is really difficult.

Thanks for everyone help is much appreciated xxx

Thats intersting K, as I had trouble finding a birth for my Grandfather and nothing seemed to quite fit. Sounds like his mother had him out of wedlock.

he was born before his parents married

Wow you are clever people Thank you very much, that just confirms it that both are correct census matches for my Grandfathers family. Just odd that he would put that he has only 2 living children and not 3.

Thank you very much Tempest, K and Astra

Thank you very much Tempest, bless you....Yes the last one I have it just baffled me that if its correct and this is his father, why would he put that he had 3 children and 1 died? Thats why I assumed that maybe he couldn't be the father. As I understand it he would of filled out his own census is that right?

tempest

tempest Report 1 Aug 2011 13:33

I think you have this already, but just in case here's a possibility for his father on 1911 census

Address: 2 Goodnestone Road Sittingbourne

Name Relation Condition/ Yrs married Sex Age Birth Year Occupation Where Born

COOMBER, Edward Charles Head Married M 29 1882 Stationary Engineman Kent Milton Regis
COOMBER, Florence Isabell Wife Married 4 years F 27 1884 Scotland Glasgow
COOMBER, Clara Emma Victoria Daughter F 3 1908 Kent Sittingbourne
COOMBER, Hardy Flower Son M 2 1909 Kent Sittingbourne

it says Edward Charles was working in the paper making industry, could that be a mill?

although it says 3 children born to marriage, 2 still living in 1911 so poss not this one
