MS Services are ok to leave running, as they are part of windows.

It is the non-ms services that you should consider disabling. Most are not necessary at all e.g. installed programs looking for updates every time you boot up.

Ctfmon.exe is part of Office XP and for most users, is not required. It is however a bit awkward to remove. You only need to be concerned if it is grabbing CPU resource. I see I have it enabled but it doesn't seem to be a problem on my PC at the moment.

Hi Everyone

Just to let everyone know, my computer completely failed last Friday the 13th, right day to do it though

So now i have a new one, just finding my way around it, but taking some getting used to

Just like to thank everyone who helped me to try and resolve the problem i had, but i did have the feeling it was ready to give up the ghost.

About transferring to a new computer - my daughter recently bought a new laptop from PCWorld and they did it all for her charging £30
