Members would need some dates and places to be able to help - please be careful about putting details if these are living people

thanks Jax, but now I have a mystery, Ronald was my mothers brother and I always thought they had the same father but I have just found out that my mums father Henry Ricketts died in 1918 so it turns out that he cannot be Ronald Ricketts father, is there any way I can find out who Ronalds father is ?

Betty

Betty Report 23 May 2010 23:34

jax

jax Report 23 May 2010 23:35

only by obtaining the certicate but he was registered as Ricketts so I would presume he was named as the father

My understanding is that a child born to a widow is considered legitimate no matter the time span.

Betty

Betty Report 23 May 2010 23:47

Hi Sat/nav, Ronalds mum must have had him out of marriage because her husband Henry Ricketts died in June 1918 and Ronald was born in late 1920, his mum, who was my nan did remarry but not until 1922, maybe her second husband was Ronalds father .

Yes Jax that's Henry, he was my grandfather and going by the dates he cannot be Ronald Ricketts father. I would love to know who his father was.

jax

jax Report 24 May 2010 00:02

Im no expert but if he was registered as ricketts fathers name would be unknown I would think
Unless your grandmother went on to marry him at a later date

thanks Jax, I suppose it doesn't really matter who his father was, he did have the same mother as my mum, so he would have been her half brother and not her full brother, I don't think my mum knew that.,

Its funny how you dig up these things too late, so many things I would have liked to tell my grandparents

I know what you mean, none of my older family members are living, I wish they were here, so many questions left unanswered.

You could see if you can find a baptism for him. His father might be mentioned.

Martha married a William Parry in 1922 and had 4 more boys.

The eldest was named after his father, this makes me think Ronald was not the son of William.
