Helen in Bucks Report 20 Mar 2010 21:26

The Ouseley that Minnie Hickmott married on the ref found by Jan was George J Ouseley.

Given the timing, i.e. married in 1941 and subsequent marriage to Samuel Glass in 1946, it is possible that George Ouseley was a casualty of WW2. I'll have a bit of a search and post again.

Sally
It would seem that Minnie first married George J OUSELEY in 1941, but he was killed in the War in 1944.

In 1946 as widow OUSELEY, she married Samuel GLASS.

Thank you ever so much for your help Gwyn. Its all very interesting!!.. My grandad was a bit of an old rogue himself, and it makes me feel more human knowing that my grandparents both had interesting lives too!!! Do you have any tips on finding relatives of my grandad SAMUAL GLASS in Ireland??.. he was born in 1918 in belfast.. im a bit new to this and are struggling a bit!!

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 20 Mar 2010 22:45

I'm sorry, ... I know almost nothing about researching in Ireland.

A copy of the marriage certificate ( which you have, I believe? ) will give the name and occupation of Samuel's father. This will help to find the correct registration.

Were any other GLASS family witnesses to the marriage?

You can either change the title of this thread, to ask for eg Birth in Ireland 1918 help....or start a new one asking for where to look.

thank you for the details you have posted oz . but can you tell me what i do from here . and what they mean . sorry to be a pain but i am a internet novice xx

Ozibird

Ozibird Report 21 Mar 2010 20:57

You told us that Minnie's mother was an Annie Voller. So I went looking for the marriage with no luck but came up with Annie Voller marrying a Harry Walker and an Annie Walker marrying an Arthur Hickmott. This means your great-grandmother was also married twice.

What you do now is up to you. As Annie is a direct ancestor I would be buying both her marriage certificates eventually. It's up to you.

Certificates can be bought at www.gro.gov.uk online or local registration districts. Do not pay more than £7 (the price goes up to £9.25 in April).
