hi everyone
many thanks for your help. sorry i wasnt totally ignoring you all,it got quite late so switched off.
you have come up with some interesting info for me,many thanks again.
did lancashire ann mean george addinall was committed to truants school /and it was a misprint o0f george addinall.and im not sure if parents moved to lancs but some of the children did.

where did you manage to find the prosecutions,that is interesting info as i didnt know you could get prosecuted for not sending your kids to school at that time.[times dont change] xxxxx

they are on the 19th century newspapers site which I can access with my Lancashire library card

Jonesey has a thread about how to apply for one which is often near the top of the boards (I would have to read it ti find out as I have been a member of Lancs library since I was a small child in the dark ages)

can't remember when the education act made it law for children to attend school and I think the age range changed over the years - you could try Google

I think I typed that about George exactly as it was printed. The extracts were mainly from the local news section of the York paper
