netty he would have only been 5 years old. I don't think they transported children that young did they. Good idea though.

barry

The lady who sent me the information had a complete family tree with all the IGI references all the dates corresponded as well. since this line is in my husband's tree ane he is not so interested in family history I did not check it out properly. It has taught be a big lesson.

Thanks for all your help.

I found a charles Barnes on 1861 census living with Grand parents. Wyatt aged 66 and Elizabth 68 he is aged 16 address 14 Camden place, kensington it gives his place of birth as Middlesex. They are also on 1851 census ( same address) this time he is shown as son.

I wonder if this could be my Charles Barnes?? Place of birth may be given wrongly because of the poor laws. I cannot find Wyatt and Elizabeth in 1841. any suggestions

Hi Kathy,

I've turned it upside and inside out and I just can't tie Charles into the 1871 or 1861 census, there must be a reason;

1. He is under a stepfathers name and reverted to his true name at marriage?

2. He was illegitemate (still can't spell it!!!) and made Charles up......... mother may have married later?

3. He was previously married under a different name, didn't work out and then he met Harriet and wanted to marry her........ married her under a false name?

I suppose we could go on, but it's still not helping to find Charles.

The witnesses on their marriage do not seem to help, George Davis and Harriett Cun???ll (Maybe Harrietts mother remarried?)......... it seems strange to not see him in 1871 in the Chelsea area especially as he marries 11 months later in the area.

I'll keep looking and hopefully with fingers crossed (damn hard to type though!!) something may turn up.

One last thing, they had a daughter in 1877 Isabella Clara who died in 1880............ I wonder if this could be Charles's mothers name... ISABELLA??

Dee xx

The "Noleen" in Thomas William Barnes' baptism record could be "Nolan". Then again looking at ancestry's record it has an "R" in his name - it could well be "Rolan" or "Roland".

The female witness is one Harriett CANTELL. 1871 Census living in St Luke's parish, Camera Terrace, London. A young Clara Hill (Harriot Clara Hill?) is living with her. This Clara is given as being 15 years of age. (If it's Harriot, Barnes has married a minor.)

Hello John,

This thread is now over 2 years old and it is doubtful if the original poster is still checking for replies.

You can try clicking on Kathleen's name and send your message that way. If she still has the same email address, she will be notified.

If you are looking for connections on this site, the best thing to do is to put the names you are researching into the Search Trees box above to see if anyone else has them in their tree. If you find a connection, you can contact the tree owner. Cx.

Noted, Cynthia.

Kathleen, the original researcher, has posted on a well-known social site and I've replied that I've made findings which may or may not assist her. I'll continue from there on that site.

Thanks.
