I'm looking for another name for Minnie. I had found her on the 1891 census but no sign of her in 1901 (no death under minnie for the interim years) also can not find a birth for her under Minnie

have you tried just searching for the surname without any first name, you'd be surprised how some names can be transcribed

if you let us have the 1891 details you have (if you have the ref numbers folio page etc too that would really help us find it) then we can have a look for you

don't know how likely this is but there is this death ref:

Deaths Sep 1896 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gladwin Florence May 4 Ledbury 6a 254

I am struggling to find a corresponding birth ref, perhaps she was adopted into the family

I am assuming from the 1891 Minnie and Frank were twins. I'm looking for a birth ref for them to get mothers maiden name. There are a couple of Franks which could match so thought by getting minnies birth it might be easier. famous last words eh?

thanks again

Hi Linda,
I have just looked at the birth pages for 1891 Jan & april qtrs.
I could not find them in Jan, in April the page with Gla seeems to
be missing! It could be there but sometimes the pages are muddled.
I also found the death for a Florence May, but no birth.

Philomena? Of course she could have just been petite and hence the name.

not sure that the Frank you are looking for is the Herform 1890 one. If he was 1mth old on the 1891 census he would have been born in the early months of 1891. Also if he was born in Ledbury that is a reg district in its own right. Can't find Annie's reg either.

Alice & William James were registered in Devon (e Stonehouse) - cf 1881 census

if it is mary's maiden name you are after I would suggest sending for Williams birth certificate

I agree with Janet, often Minnie is used for a woman with a small build.

My great-aunt Edith was called Minnie in the censuses where she was married. She then had a daughter who was actually called Minnie.

Update: Looks like you've found her, Selena.

Ozi.

Thanks Ozi, but I'm not totally convinced its her as I still can't find twin brother.

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 25 Aug 2009 23:07

can't find Annie either - they don't seem to have registered the later children after they moved from Devon

still think birth cert of William or Alice is the best bet for mary's name
