I have just found a birth record on here for a John Abrahamson born 1848 but you cannot read the Registrars district or the volume or page number. I have him and his mother on the 1851 census but her husband is not shown on this document he may have been living elsewhere, could have died or they may have been divorced. I do not know Johns fathers name or his mothers maiden name at this point!!! any tips would be great.

Thanks.

It says on the 1851 census that his mother is married so her husband must be somewhere else at the time.

Now if this is the correct John Abrahamson - how would I go about getting a copy of birth cert if I do not have fathers name?

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 28 Jul 2009 21:34

You don't need the father or mother's name.

Just use the reference numbers we have given and order online from the GRO. It will cost £7.

The address is:-

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

Make sure that when the online form asks "Is the full GRO reference known?" that you tick the "yes" box. If you don't it will cost you more.

Sylvia,

I think I may Join Ancestry.co.uk as I didn't realise the information you could get on it. I have only just got back to searching for ancestors after a two year break. So much has changed in the last few years the information you can get now is amazing.

Even his branch of my family tree is finally opening up. Totally different to what I had expected.

Ladies,

I joined Ancestry and have found my mothers long lost 1st cousin in the first week. So thank you all for your advice on that.

I was just wondering if any of you could help me with another of my searches. My grandmother had a half sister Rose Abrahamson (Born 1897)and half brother Harry Abrahamson (born 1901). (they are on the 1901 with parents Samuel Abrahamson and Esther Abrahamson).

Now the query is that they were not brought up by their father after their mother died. He remarried a- Rose Emily N Potts and then they had 6 children one being my grandmother Josephine.

On ancestry I have found the reference to their births of the first two children. But not sure how to find out where they went after this and who they lived with. How do I search the 1911 census or any other documents?

Helen

You can search the 1911 census here:-

www.1911census.co.uk

It is free to search but you have to buy credits to view the transcription (10 credits) or to view the actual image (30 credits).
