If his father was a ships steward he could well have been at sea when the census was taken

If he stayed in New Zealand then there are only two deaths after 1950 for an Arthur Watson of the right age who was not born in NZ - Arthur Alexander in 1959 and Arthur in 1967

Death certs may be of help!

Thank you Peter the first is a bit iffy (i.e. middle name Alexander although to be honest I would'nt know but seems unlikely). The second one sound interesting.

Do you have any other info or how do I go about getting a death cert.

The only checking point I would have would be fathers name.
