Just used it and found I had my aunt married to the wrong man! I don't think I ever knew her married name so when I found a marriage I assumed it was her - she does have an unusual maiden surname. Now I am intrigued as to who the other lady with the same name is!

There is now a note from Ancestry saying"Due to the volume of records recently added to the Marriage Index we are experiencing problems with this collection. We are working to resolve the problem and expect it to be resolved within the next 24 hours. Please check back at a later time if your search does not work correctly".

Shame!
You can revert to the old system check the image for the spouse's surname and gro ref.,then search again,Spouse/district/quarter/year/.
Hope they fix it soon!

I've just spent 10 minutes on Ancestry and filled in 5 marriages on my tree - and that's just for one branch of the family. Roll on the weekend when I can sit with a list and fill in a lot more. I think it will also give me some more info. to check on because I've found marriages for a couple of people who carry common family names and live in the same areas as ancestors but who I didn't know about - people born around the 1930's. Good searching everyone:)

Helen - thank you so much! I immediately tried it out with the name of a known marry-in and it worked! i have seen these collections of possibles quoted before but didn't know where they came from. I have only just joined Ancestry - I look forward to some sessions with all the census forms I have to look for new leads.

Elizabeth, you can find the wife's maiden name / husband's name, if you click on View Record and then on Find Spouse it will show you the other "half" of the marriage. Helen

How disappointing! I thought you meant we could actually find the entry with the names of both partners (instead of having to send for certificates). I do find it frustrating when working with censuses not to know the unmarried name of the wife, making it difficult to trace the blood line through the grandmotherly lines.

hooray hooray hooray, at last with names like Jones, Smith, Roberts, Edwards no more painful trawling quarter by quarter

however wouldn't it be nice if they called it Marriages 1916-2005 fully transcribed instead of expecting us all to be telepathic and know that Marriages 1984-2005 fully transcribed actually means 1916-2005!!!!

You say that it is not working yet?
I entered wilkins wiltshire 1948-1950 in the main search box.
result;
133 England & Wales, Birth Index: 1916-2005
61 England & Wales, Marriage Index: 1916-2005
If I click on the marriage index all the entries have an image
and below the results there is a further search box to refine the search.

Thanks Rose. I haven't looked on Ancestry for a little while so it'll give me a whole lot of stuff to look up.
