Can anyone please tell me how to go forward in finding lost relatives, I have the parents info, year of birth (1881/1882) & marriage (1905 in Cardiff) , what I'm after is info on the children of that marriage, any ideas where I can find the childrens names/dates of birth etc.
I'd be grateful of any help, as I'm about to give up on this branch of the family.
Many thanks in advance,

Lynne

You need access to the complete birth, marriage and death indexes and you will need to search quarter by quarter for each year....no quick way yet.

You could try

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com

after 1911 it gives mother's surame on birth registrations.

Thanks for your quick response to my query, I'm not sure if the 1911 census is available for Glamorgan, but I'll check it out Pam, I'll also do as Madmeg suggests & put some more info up, though I don't have much. The only child I know of was Rita Lewis (no dates) she married a John Fowkes/Fowlkes moved to S. Africa, they had 4 children.
Thanks again.

Hi Lynne

We are not talking about the 1911 census, but about BMDs of your family whenever. Pam meant that if you know of children born after 1911 they are easier to find, so we need details of the mother please.

If I have found the marriage and birth then sadly Jones is a very common name and there appears to be many Lewis/Jones marriages with the resultant large number of births in Cardiff.

Was Bertha born in Cardiff?
I have found one other person with a possible match for her.

Bertha 1882 CARDIFF South Glamorgan Wales No Kelly-Ann

There are several others with birthdates +/_ 2 years that may have been entered as a best guess. some entered as Cardiff or Wales. You could ty sending a message to them with what you know to see if there is a connection. You may get lucky.

To find Kelly and the others on here go to the dark green bar at the top of the page and click on search trees.

Many Thanks to all of you who responded to my query, & my apologies for the delay in getting back to you, (thanks Pam for the directions on how to get back into this site, I've written it down so shouldn't get lost again - it's an age thing I think)! the parents of Rita Lewis are Florence Annie Curtis b.1882 Cardiff & Albert Edward Lewis b.1881 married in Cardiff 1905 (11a 755). but I'm stuck on finding/how to find any children other than Rita, all I know about her is she married a John Fowkes/Foulkes (either in the UK or S. Africa) & they had 4 children. Any suggestions, gratefully received.
Many thanks again,

Lynne

Thanks for that info Pam, I had the marriage of Florence & Albert, but the Rita Lewis b.1919 Sturminster is a possibility, I guess the next step is to get a copy (if possible) of Ritas birth cert.
Many thanks again to you all for your help.

When you send for the birth cert for Rita give her fathers name as a checking point. If its the wrong one GRO will send back 3 pounds

With the reference I have given you it will cost £7 but use father's name as suggested.

These are a couple of possible births for children of Florence and Albert:

Kathleen Lewis mmn Curtis 1913 Q1 Cardiff ref. 11a 850
Phyllis Lewis mmn Curtis 1914 Q3 Cardiff ref. 11a 734

If either of these are correct you may be able to find descendants of theirs who can shed some light on Rita?

How certain are you of Rita's name? There is this birth which although isn't in Cardiff it could be a possible?

Sarah Rita Lewis 1908 Q2 Bedwelty ref. 11a 80

Do you have any idea at all of when Rita may have married?

Many thanks to you all for all your info & suggestions, sorry for the delay in replying back to you - away for a few days. Von, you kind of threw me with your info, I'd hope the Rita - Sturminster might be the one I wanted. The info that Rita was Florence & Alberts daughter came from a maiden aunt, now deceased, she gave me a roughly drawn out fam. tree, (with no dates) & told me these are our fam. in S. Africa. The names were Rita, her husband, 4 children & their children. (My maiden aunt use to often visit relies in S. Africa). I've looked for a marriage for Rita on BMD with no luck. Contrary Mary - thanks for the possible children of Florence & Albert, the Sarah Rita Lewis is also a possible child. I'm just wondering if Rita is an abbreviation of another name? (like Betty is for Elizabeth). I'm sorry I've no idea when Rita married, I'm assuming that Florence & Albert (her age at marriage was 23) had children between 1906-22.
Thanks again to you all for your help.
