HOW UNUSUAL IS IT FOR BOTH SIDES OF THE FAMILY TO KNOW EACH ORTHER.
I,m doing the lister side of my family and on the 1881 census i have thomas lister aged 49 hes my gg grandad his next door niegbours are a family of nicholson,s thats the name of my side of the family , i don,t know if these nicholson,s are related to me. but i think most researchers on here have trid to help me start the nicholson side without success,
i was gobsmacked to see these familys living side by side

Not that unusual!! my Mum and Dad were next door neighbours, He chatted her up over the garden wall when she and her elder sister where laundering their dance dresses and hanging them on the line to dry. Dad apparently said "not another one" when Mum was pegging out yet another dress, After a chat over the garden wall he asked her out BUT she didnt show!! he was furious and didnt speak to her again for several weeks until both happened to be in the garden at the same time and he asked WHY she didnt turn up.Her response was she didnt think he was serious so thats why. SO they arranged a proper date and were later married on Xmas Day 1929!!

I think it was fairly common - after all, people didn't travel far back in the 1800's - I can work along the street where some of my ancestors live and find connections with both sides of the family in houses very close together

wouldn't think it very unusual at all Jim, in my case I have found in laws living in same street...because they shared the same occupation...working on the river and the families tended to intermarry.

WELL I THINK I,M GOING TO FOLLOW THIS UP
BECAUSE 1 OF THESE COULD BE MY DADS MOM OR DAD.
Q. HOW CAN I TRACE THESE PEOPLE FORWARD ???

well if you give us their forenames and surnames, relevant dates and where they lived we'll see what we can find

on the Mormon LDS site if you find your rellies you can work along the street both ways and see who the neighbours are and s Rose says, you will find that usually they are all in the same trade - mine are all ag labs in Berkshire

researchers have spent hrs on trying to find my dad
james peter nicholson b 1896 abt he died in 1960 aged 64 and he is the complete brick wall.
so i was concentating on the lister side and came across this family of nicholson,s living next door to my gggrandad, bit of along shot i know so this has given me anorther route to track,when i think about it i only need to track the male don,t i??

On my Nans parents sides a generation back were down the same road in the 1871 census, but not next door to each other though

the only fact i have is he died oct 1960 aged 64 in birmingham and he never married my mom, i have them living together from 1948 / 1960 on the elec rolls reg.

I posted the 1901 census showing the family of Nicholson's however, I think that by 1901 all the children were still at home, and all apart from the eldest Margaret were single, and no James Nicholson aged 4 / 5 is showing on this census - perhaps these are not the family you are looking for.
