You should always work from the present time backwards, getting certificates where necessary to confirm anything you don't know for certain.

I would definitely get your grandfather's birth certificate.

No I'm thinking that's what I have to do to get this certain.
Thanks

Have you got your grandfather's birth certificate? That should give his father's occupation.

Why not post the names and probable DoBs of the couple you're looking for and see if someone here can help you find them. As has been said, searching is free!.

Not absolutely sure but I think if people where in their place of employment at the time the census were taken then they would not show up at their home address, but at their place of work.

What about a birth cert for their first child that should have an address on it.

InspectorGreenPen Report 11 Mar 2009 14:28

Addresses on Wedding Certificates are often made up or just that of a friend. Sometimes it was to cover up the fact that the couple were already living together.

Have you tried looking for them by name and birth info?

Thanks for that looks like I need to find another avenue to search for these relatives!!

A lot of people would be living away from home by the time they were of an age to marry - perhaps in service etc.

One of my grandfather's sisters was living away from home at the age of 10 in the 1901 census, working as a servant.

Not necessarily.........unless you have some other evidence that the address was the family home.

Susie Floosie Report 9 Mar 2009 22:58

Ricochet

I thought that but what about their parents would they not possible live at those addresses?

Ricochet Report 7 Mar 2009 23:14

The address at which someone lives prior to a marriage is seldom the one at which they live after the marriage..........

If they are 'at home', or in lodgings or in service somewhere, they are unlikely still to be there as a married couple...............

Susie,

If you search by adress it doesn't tell you who lives there until you pay

Best Wishes
