Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

curious

This is on the International Genealogical Index, on www.familysearch.org, the Mormon site.

It is a SUBMITTED record, which means it has been sent in by a church member and there is no backing documentation ..... so very iffy until and unless you can find otherwise.

But it is suspiciously like your "Ann"

I'm still poking around, but it's taking me longer than usual 'cos the server's acting up!!

I found this Thomas Aston on the 1841 Census. ad wondered if he was the one?

Remember that ages are rounded down to the closest 5 years on the 1841, and relationships are not given.

But this looks like a Thomas aged between 15 and 19 (ie, 1826 to 1830, with his parents, and a sister called Hannah

Adam the Thomas in the 1851 census is listed as Engineer so the 1861 follows this train of thought.

1861
Name: Hannah Aston
Age: 37
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1824
Relation: Patient
Gender: Female

Civil Parish: Upton By Chester
County/Island: Cheshire
Country: England

Registration district: Great Boughton
Sub registration district: Cathedral Division
ED, institution, or vessel: Cheshire County Lunatic Asylum

Hannah is listed as widow of engineer.

May explain why you have had problems finding Anne or Hannah ??

GranOfOzRubySlippers

GranOfOzRubySlippers Report 21 Nov 2008 07:19

So if it is the same Thomas he would have passed away sometime between 1851 and 1861??

So this could be his death???
Thomas Aston
1855 Apr-May-Jun
Wirral (1837-1974) Cheshire
Volume: 8a Page: 284

GranOfOzRubySlippers Report 21 Nov 2008 07:48

There are two births for a Hannah Aston, could not find an Anne so it is either of these, providing parents of Thomas and Hannah are correct on Certificates.

Hannah Aston
1850 Apr-May-Jun
Wirral (1837-1974)
Cheshire
Volume: 19 Page: 424

Hannah Aston
1850 Oct-Nov-Dec
Wirral (1837-1974) Cheshire
Volume: 19 Page: 316

I googled Birkenhead and the district is Wirral.

Have gone to try and find a death for Hannah Aston (1824) and see if she is on any other census, also Anne or Hannah Aston 1850.

Robin, I think you have her for 1871. I still cannot find her in 1861, I would think she may be with a relative somewhere.

Adam

Adam Report 21 Nov 2008 17:16

this is a bit of a nightmare is'nt it do you think anne was really called hannah ?

Kate

Kate Report 21 Nov 2008 19:52

Could be - I was just thinking, my great-great-great grandma who was always named as Hannah Holcroft on the census turned up in the baptism records at the local church as "Annie Oldcroft" - I suppose you can see how Annie/Anna/Hannah might be mixed up or misheard somehow.

Ivy

Ivy Report 21 Nov 2008 22:57

For 1861, Ancestry has a Hannah "Ashlaw" aged 9 b Birkenhead. Looking at the image, the enumerator does add a flourish to a final letter n, so this could well be Ashton - misheard for Aston?

This 9 yr old is with an uncle, David Hughes, b Ireland.
