Today, I posted a success story on the community boards. It is in my threads list but hasn't appeared on the success board. Have I done something wrong?

I think it goes through some sort of vetting process first. It can take a day or so to appear.

Oh, OK
Thanks Jill, I'll keep a look out for it.

somtimes it seems to take 3 or 4 days before new postings appear.

"They" vet them first!!

and "they" don't work on the weekends

But they do Sylvia - I had one of my postings on a thread whooshed today and a message from GR support telling me about it. It took them 20 minutes from my post to their message ... Maybe they only keep an eye on the boards in case it kicks off and leave the success stories until the weekdays!

was it abusive?????????

did you get a ban???

sometimes those are automatic ................. a word triggers a response from the computer programme.

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 9 Nov 2008 23:47

Ah - it may have been an automatic response then. No it wasn't abusive ... some may have construed it as a bit "rude" but I think I'd have been pushed to have said it was really rude - plus I used an asterisk in place of the vowel. (I daren't tell you what the word was just in case!)

Ban me? No - they wouldn't! I'm normally very well-behaved and when I do get a little out of hand I make it very clear in the heading of a thread like my "rude words thread" I posted last year. That one didn't last the night but it was funny while it lasted. And nobody had to read it if they didn't like the sound of it!!

Weird though as I have seen rude words left on threads for some time before now. Perhaps it's a combination of someone reporting it plus an automatic trigger?

I hope it wasn't b*m!!!!!!! I said bugger on a thread the other day and it's still there!!

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 9 Nov 2008 23:58

No it wasn't b*m! Reels over with shock!!

It was four letters. Began with a T, ended with an S. There was another T in there as well and then an asterisk instead of an I. In my book that is not rude, but I thought someone must have thought so! Or maybe it had something to do with the fact that I had said my goosebumps would be bigger than ... ? I don't know.

Yet b*gg*r could be considered to be really OTT in some people's opinion. Not mine, 'cos I've heard worse but some people would grumble about it ...

Gonna change my name to Mrs Grumpy if it happens again - LOL

If success stories really do get vetted first then why do the genes team post the occasional 'requests for help' on there?

The vetting cant be that rigorous

♥Deetortrainingnewfys♥ Report 14 Nov 2008 18:35

Well, it still hasn't come up.

Nothing in there that is abusive.

Just a lovelly story of me helping a friend find her birth Mother who had apparently been looking for her for years! I didn't even give names.

So why they haven't posted it yet I do not know.

I did think about messaging some of those who have posted on the success stories board to see how long it took theirs to appear.

What do you think?

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 14 Nov 2008 18:47

They do seem to post the success stories in batches. Sometimes it will be a couple of days before a new batch appears. Is the top story still the same one as it was when you posted? That's one way to monitor it -- see how long a story stays at the top of the page, and that's how long it's been since a new batch was, er, "vetted".

The most recent one there is dated 14/11. Hmm. That does seem odd.

You could find your post as you did before, click on "request review", and ask what the problem is.

Or heck, just submit it again, lol. It's not like there aren't lots of duplicates from people who do that when their post doesn't show up immediately!

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 14 Nov 2008 18:48

Oh -- if your success did not involve Genes Reunited in some way, it will not be posted. Could that be the problem?

Dee

Think Evie has hit the nail on the head.

You didn't mention that it was all due to Genes that you found the info.

The success page is the first thing that potential members see....Don't want anyone saying they did it without the Genes site help!!! LOL

Mmmm

Evie, could be that.

I basically put it up as a success story but did it to encourage people on the GR boards to keep trying even though the info I found was not from GR.

Perhaps I should have posted it onto the records boards??

I've just gone back into my threads to look at the article again (as it was done on 9th) and its missing! Gone! Puff! Disappeared!

They have taken it away from me. Didn't know they could do that. Thanks GR!

Now what do I do?

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 14 Nov 2008 20:05

Lie and say it was all down to Genes Reunited.

What? Did I say that?? Surely not!

You could tell the tale and then say that the person is busy searching for lost cousins at Genes Reunited ...

I'm quite annoyed. It was quite a long piece and I have lost it!

Try removing the characters around your name.

Apparently they now cause problems with GR's database management system.

♥Deetortrainingnewfys♥ Report 19 Nov 2008 13:59

Thank you for everyone's response.
Unfortunately, the item has been removed from my threads list and I have lost it.

Still don't know why they would "remove" it, I didn't mention any names and it was in my list of threads.

I've given up now. I only wanted to encourage other people not to give up searching for birth parents.

C'est la vie!
