Just saw this post but no time to read through the 32 other replies right now so just ignore this suggestion if it has already been given:

1. Click on START.

2. Click on CONTROL PANEL.

3. Click on INTERNET OPTIONS.

5. A small screen appears with labeled tabs at the top. Click on the ADVANCED tab.

5. Scroll down to SECURITY and make sure the following have a check mark in front of them - if they don't check them off:

ALLOW ACTIVE CONTENT FROM CD'S TO RUN ON MY COMPUTER.

ALLOW ACTIVE CONTENT TO RUN IN FILES ON MY COMPUTER

ALLOW SOFTWARE TO RUN OR INSTALL EVEN IF SIGNATURE IS INVALID.

4. Click on APPLY and OK at the bottom of the screen.

Hi Surfmonkey,

Yes that link http://www.focusmm.co.uk/shop/Create-your-own-Family-Tree-Genealogy-Suite-pr-1149.html

That is the disc but it was bought a while ago and given to me at the time I had windowsXP and as computer was playing up I didn't try it at the time. Now on Vista but to be honest I don't think I will bother with it now. It just wont load at all. It only cost £10 so not too worried anyway.

Ah Shelly,

Really nice of you to try and help but I am not that good on computer things and I think this is way beyond my computer knowledge and I don't want to do something wrong and make my laptop go haywire if you know what I mean. I can live without installing the disc but can't live without my laptop if you know what I mean.

Hi Bob,

Oh you are very technical!!! I am not much good with technical stuff, just don't understand it!! Too technical for me!

I don't have clue what all this that you said means:-
systems from ME onwards have a restore folder,
this can harbour virus's etc. that wont be detected.

you have to disable the restore function, and then re enable it afterwards..

A disadvantage of doing that is that you will likely lose all previous restore points

that HUGE UGLY screen is normal for SAFE mode.

safe mode is a stage BEFORE all your normal processes have started up.
so any scans will run faster and more thoroughly.
.
just a point if you are running a viruscan, bear in mind that systems from ME onwards have a restore folder,
this can harbour virus's etc. that wont be detected.

you have to disable the restore function, and then re enable it afterwards..

A disadvantage of doing that is that you will likely lose all previous restore points

Hi again MGHS,

How can you run your anti virus in safe mode? I use AVG free edition anty virus but I didn't know you can run it in safe mode or even how to do that.

Hi MGHS,

Yes pouring down in Dundee too.

I sent this company an e-mail to say I was on Vista and not Windows XP and would this also work on Vista here is their reply which I have copied and pasted.

It would be the same instructions as for Windows XP. It does not mean your computer is not safe, this is just a way around the installation problems you are having.

How do you Highlite the one you want it says

Highlight this option using the arrow keys and press ENTER.

Which arrow key do you use to highlight it or do you just use the up and down arrows.
