Thank you for all your posts, bit of a wild goose chase at first, Im afraid!!

In trying to get ideas on finding my Esther, I think ive made a real hash of things by posting it on here - lol

In reference to the death that Boogie, kindly posted, this is in fact Esthers grandaughter, "Esther Mary", daughter of James Hubbard Junior and his wife Louisa.

I read somewhere that they sometimes listed males first in order of age followed by females, I do not know who the Elizabeth Brown or others of a different name listed are who are in the same house, but feel that Esther + Frances and Matilda are part of the same family and related to James, James and Joseph - obviously this needs to be checked out before I totally claim them as my own, but just by all the relatives I have since found, the names seemed to have been handed down, i.e James, Joseph, Frances, Esther but no Matilda, however there is a Maud from memory.

You have given me a few ideas going forward which I will now be looking at.

On the 1851 census after Esther had died, James remarried to Sarah in 1849 (didnt hang about) and both were living in Bethnal Green, none of the children were with them. I also have found James Junior living with his wife Louisa and daughter, but I have not been able to locate Matilda, Frances or indeed my 2 x gt grandfather Joseph (Tobacco Manufacturer/Operative) on the 1851 or at least confirm for definite - Joseph never married until 1854 to my 2 x gt grandmother Sarah Ward.

Going back to the 1841 census it states "St Leonards, Shoreditch" they were living at George Street, which seems to be a key address in some birth/marriage/death certificates.

Im guessing at least, that Hubbards came from round the Shoreditch/Mile End areas, I have got a possible link to James Snr (his father was Samuel) according to his latest marriage certificate to Sarah found on the IGI for 1786, but again another birth year difference???

Cant think of any relevant info at the mo, I really must get dressed!!! lol - hubby is waiting to go out, but I will be back later.

Firstly may I apologise, I typed "Joseph" and it should be "James", and Esther really sorry.

Hopefully the following will answer some or all of your questions. In the 1841 Esther was living with James (both ages shown as 40), her sons Joseph, James and presumably daughters Frances and Matilda - it is correct that relationships are not stated. Joseph (my 2 x gt grandfather) and James have since been found on census returns post 1841. Re the marriage certificate, I found the copy of it at the London Met Archives, originally the entry was found on Pallots, however there are two entries for a James Hubbard or Jas Hubbard and Esther Wallis, one for 1814 and one for 1822, unfortunately the one for 1822 could not be found on Micofiche only 1814, I also agree with your calculations being too young, until I found Esthers death certificate which I have a copy of 25.6.1847 in 22 George Street, Shoreditch aged 50, would have made her age at marriage 17.

Coming further forward, the names Frances, James and Joseph have been repeatly used in my other "Hubbards", but not Matilda. Also my James (3 x gt grandfather) was a "Carver" or "Cabinet Maker" who re-married a Sarah, one of the witnesses was the same on Esthers death certificate. Finally unfortunately the witnesses on the marriage in 1814 are not that clear.
