Many thanks for the information. I thought i had posted one the other day, but it dosen't show up for some reason. I will try and double check the information that you have given me and see what i can find out, if the family came from shropshire, not sure if they are mine, unfortunately. Sorry i haven't been in touch, i have a sinus infection and trying to get rid of it. not nice. Thanks for all your help, without it you can't put a line under whether they are faily or not, so thanks again.

1881 Census for Castleford West Yorks. shows an
Aaron Wood. Coal Miner 39 yrs b.Shropshire
Jane wife.37yrs. b.Shropshire
John son.15yrs. Coal Miner (Horse Drawer) b.Castleford
Halfield son 12 yrs (written as spelled on Census)
Lizey daughter 11yrs.
Noah son 8yrs
Sarah daughter 6yrs.
Aaron son 5yrs
Agnes daughter 3 yrs.
Thomas son 4mths.
All born Castleford.

There are a few Aaron Woods on the 1881 census throughout the Country but I have located the nearest to what may be a possibility....If you get someone to cross reference 1891 for Tickhill St Denaby ( I dont have access) then that should help if this family are living there.

Eringobragh1916 Report 15 Sep 2008 16:22

Have located the Inquest Report on J.W. Woods.(8.11.1883)
His father was Aaron Woods (Miner) residing at Tickhill St.Denaby.John William lived with him but I have not been able to find them on the 1881 census so far...the only Woods living in Denaby 1881 was a George Woods and family.
Can transcribe the Inquest Report..it is "long" and pm you if he belongs in your tree....

Hi
On the 1881 census there is a John Wood son, living on Whitelea Road, Swinton aged 17. That area of Swinton comes under Doncaster registration.

He is a coal miners trammer. This part of Swinton runs into Mexborough and quite a lot of miners from here worked at Denaby Main Colliery. His father is John Wood aged 38 born Cork, Ireland.

Hope this helps,

Lynn

A big shout out to Roy and Alison, my lot are from there too. Conisbrough and Denaby. My dad and grandads worked down Denaby and Cadeby pits. There is a stately home somewhere near Barnsley that has lots of info on the pits and accidents in both of them in the late 19th - early 20th century. I can't for the life in me remember the name of it. I'm off to google to see if I can find it.

hi,
yes the death cert would let you know who registered his death - more than likely one of his parents..

thanks to everyone for their help. I will have to try and find it somehow in the local paper, wanted to try and connect to my family, will have to send of for certificate, paper might tell me next of kin as he was only 17 at the time, that would be a lead.
thanks again.

I've just read the request again -

also my earlier question regarding Denaby -

You knew it was a pit! I didn't!

But I'll draw a line now - say goodnight :)

Denaby main is relevant because that is where he died and so that is the start point as to where to start searching because most people lived not to far from their place of work.

Yes - I googled it - I know it's a place!

Just not it's relevance to this particular search!
