I have raised this topic before but i still cannot get my head around it.

My Father Frank Ingham was born April 1921, his Father was Daniel Ingham ( Marine store hawker ) of Grimshaw St Oldham, His Mother Edith Ingham formerly Mercer of Rochdale rd Oldham.

I found thier Marraige Cert 1918 Bury

Daniel Ingham aged 34 Bachelor Marine store Hawker Fathers name William Ingham Cotton card room worker.

Edith Mercer aged 39 Spinster cotton card room Worker Fathers name John William Mercer (Deceased) Cotton card room Worker.

Now having all the information i need i would be able to find their Birth certs WRONG The only one for Daniel Was On The 1881 Census Aged 7 with the same Father making his DOB 1873 some 11 years different than his marriage cert.

Edith was on the 1881 aged 11 with the same Father making her DOB 1869 some 10 years different than her marraige cert.

HELP i am so desperate i dont know what to do or go about trying to find the answer if there is one

It's not simply that the marriage ages have been wrongly copied out? A curly 2 could look like a 3?

Or..do you have their deaths..that would give their ages too.?

My first thought on this was about the occupations of the fathers on the marriage cert being the same. Also the same occupation for Edith

I dont think you can mistake 34 for 45 or 39 for 49 do you
What ages do i look for on the death certs

It certainly seems that the two you have found in 1881 are likely to be the right ones - the names and occupations all match. Maybe therefore they both seriously lied about their ages when they married! Quite unusual in those days for people's first marriage to be in their forties - so maybe they both took off 10 years to make it look more respectable?

That still doesn't explain why you cant find either birth registration though, sorry!

Hi Richard, I have found their birth registrations but for 10 year added ones and thats why im confused why would they want to take 10 years off

Billy the only thing you can try is to order one of the birth certs with a ref check for father's name and occupation. if it is not the right one GRO will only charge you £3 instead of the £7

Having read through again, if Edith was 10 yrs older than on marriage cert then she would have been over 50 when first child born, not impossible I know but unlikely (i used to be a midwife and over 50 births tend to occur in women who have already had a few children)

Billy, I live almost on the south shore, we never venture on to the track on BH or between 10am and 7pm in summer.

We get used to having it to ourselves in winter months.

I assume the census you have for Daniel in 1881 is the one where William his father is born Kent?
