Children born between the 1901 census & 1911 are very difficult to find.

They will not show on a census until the 1911 is released
Mother's maiden name is not shown on the birth registry until 1911

If you really want to find these missing children, you will need to look for Stephens birth in that area & between those dates & start ordering certs. This could end up being very costly.

Other than that, try to speak to someone older in the family who may at least be able to remember a few names.

yes sorry i have now found all the five children on census but still missing two one maybe a boy but not sure!!!

I think I have the mentioned twins:

births
Alice May Stephens 1886 Jan-Feb-Mar
Alverstoke Hampshire

Henrietta Stephens 1886 Jan-Feb-Mar
Alverstoke Hampshire

Looks like Henrietta died a couple of months old though, which is why she is not in the census. Possible from premature birth if they were twins or maybe TB.

deaths
Henrietta Stephens abt 1886 1886 Jul-Aug-Sep Alverstoke Hampshire

CelticShiv

CelticShiv Report 20 May 2008 10:04

There is also this birth

births
Samuel George Stephens 1884 Oct-Nov-Dec Alverstoke Hampshire

he also sadly died an infant:

deaths
Samuel George Stephens abt 1884 1884 Oct-Nov-Dec Alverstoke Hampshire

could he be the missing boy?

of course you would need to order the cert giving parents name as a cross checking note to see if he is.

CelticShiv Report 20 May 2008 10:09

there is also another child death (if they are the siblings of your Mother in law, it seems a very sad story, which was the case for alot of family in that period with TB at full force, I have lost lots of children in my family tree in that period)

birth
Henry William Stephens 1887 Jul-Aug-Sep Alverstoke Hampshire

death
Henry William Stephens abt 1888 1894 Jan-Feb-Mar Alverstoke Hampshire

birth
Edward James Stephens 1891 Jul-Aug-Sep Alverstoke Hampshire

death
Edward James Stephens abt 1892 1893 Jan-Feb-Mar Alverstoke Hampshire

is the same quarter and same volume for the two girl and only a page or so difference, so it is possible the twins were recorded on seperate pages.

Siobhan/Marily

Although twins are usually registered on the same page, sometimes one is on the page before or after (there might only have one space left on the page)

GRMarilyn

GRMarilyn Report 20 May 2008 18:05

HI Potty,
But they do still have to have the same Registration number.( I am a twin )
All my twins in my family have the same reg no,Boy or Girl.and twins are the only certs that states the time of birth.

thankyou but they would have been born before my mother in law and she was born in 1899!!

CelticShiv

CelticShiv Report 20 May 2008 22:59

Marilyn they do share the same registration, quarter and vol no though, it is just the page number which is different by just a couple of pages and this can be the case with twins. I have some twins in my own tree where the page no was different.

Marillyn,

I`m very intrested in your earlier post where you mentioned only twins have time of birth on their certificates...... My gr gr grandmother was born in 1839, and in the where and when born section it gives the date, the time "half past 11 o`clock P.M.", and address where she was born, this is the ONLY birth cert. I have with a time on, does this mean she was a twin?,

Nicky

CelticShiv

CelticShiv Report 21 May 2008 23:32

Nicky, is it an England or Wales birth cert? if so then it is very likely that your GGG Grandmother was a twin.

I know Scottish birth certs have the time of birth regardless. But as you are talking about 1839 I doubt it is a scottish birth certificate you are referring to.
