Daniel also changed his age, in his case he "lost" a few years each census. Probably something to do with his second wife being 15 years younger! |

This is the same family on the 1901 Census. Henry and Alfred Brome show as being lodgers but their place of birth is Victoria Dock!! Elizabeth has changed back to Elizabeth again after being Esther 10 years previously and now says she was born in Canning Town. Previously it was Maldon, Essex and then Stepney. (sigh) I really think I will have to give it up as a lost cause. |

It does say Victoria Dock. Shame it wasn't Park though 'cos that would fit with Henry born Hackney. I wonder if they didn't marry. It would have been easy enough to get away with in that area. (My great gran never married her second husband) |

Yes Glitter, right again. Now have a look at the 1901 census and look at the 2 lodgers that are staying there. Do they look familiar? |

Thanks Glitter, yes that's the right family and oops should have mentioned that Elizabeth sometimes appears to have called herself Esther as well as managing to be 28 years of age on 3 census. She remarried in 1902 and on the marriage certificate states that she is 28, single and her surname is Bruce. I know its the right one from who her husband is and the address. I think she altered the facts to fit her circumstances. Very helpful!!! |

Thanks Janet and Mick. I've just checked the original census image and it's definitely Victoria Dock and the Canning Town area makes sense. |

Thanks Joy, I've tried that but unfortunately I believe that Elizabeth was possibly born Puckbauer and has just used the end of her surname. She is proving a very elusive lady to track down as well as the marriage and the first couple of children. They certainly don't make life easy for us!!! |

Victoria Dock or could it be Victoria Park which is in Hackney? |

Thanks Sam, certainly a possibility and if only a possible Albert Alfred could be found then I'll invest some money in them. |

Is it possible that records of births and marriages could be completely missing from the index. |
