hi all,

Does anyone know if you can contact a person who submitted on the IGI? they put a lot of information on there and i would like to know howthey are related. i think they must have known some of my family personally as it also gives shortened names etc.and my name is not that common.

thanks,
llee.

You might be lucky. It is worth trying.

I contacted Salt Lake City once to try to track down a submitter but the submission to their records had been made in the 1920s and no more was known about where the information had come from.

I may be incorrect, but I believe if you click on "Source Call No.", it will give the approximate date the record was submitted (or sealed).

Also, I was trying to find a submitter a few years ago, and my local LDS branch had the microfiche, even though the record originated in England or Canada.

If you found it on the Ancestral File part then all you need to do is click on submitters details and a name and address should pop up.
Ive been lucky enough to contact a couple of people that way :)

I once tried to contact a submitter on IGI ...... it gave her full name and address in Australia on IGI

I checked on the web for someone of that name in that town (quite a small place)

Nothing.

No-one in the town had the same surname.

I widened the search to the whole country using the phone directory .... no-one of that name.

so I was unlucky

I have read about people contacting submitters and letters finally reaching the person concerned. If you think they may be still alive, have a go. You haven't got anything to lose except the price of a stamp and you might just get lucky.

ok great thanks for all your replies.

i'm just sure she must know them personally as surely on records a person would simply put cissie when she got married, the igi doesn't give her maiden name of full name just a shortened first name. thanks all, will try contacting them.

If you post the details I'll have a look for you. I have to go out very soon but I'll look when I get back in if no one else has found it for you by then.

i put in the parent search charles gannaway and emily plummer. there are 9 pedigree files that come up. if you click frank gannaway the sibmitters name is judith gannaway.

frank doesn't come up if you just put his name in the search.

thank you in advance.
Leanne.

Leanna

The info you have been given for contacting the submitter works when the search is done on the IGI search.
To get the ino from the Pedigree resource File I think you have to order the CD.
Where were the Gannaways from?

I did it a few years ago after but before i contacted them I looked at The american white pages to see if they lived at the same address I found they had moved so I wrote to that address
I got a reply and they were distant relations of my husband
I wrote to two other submitters about my ancestors and they wrote back to say they didn't know why their details had been put on those entries because none of them were their families
