What I do when anyone asks for my tree to be opened is to send a message back saying that I do not open my tree unless I am really sure there is a match. I then give them a little bit of information around the person that they think is a match and ask if it corresponds with information they have.

Usually by doing this they will send you a little bit of information and you will be able to see if it is a match.

If it is then I send a message saying that I will open my tree and ask them to open theirs.

Before I take any information off anyone elses tree I do ask permission.

Could someone explain the protocol for request to access your tree, I have sent messages to members that I have found some part matches with and asked for more information on this match, on 2 occasions, the response has been to ask for access to my tree but not allow access to their tree.

The first person I gave acess to, did not get back to me and I sent a message to say I could not open their tree, they then gave access but had taken information from my tree and placed in into theirs.

I have not responded to this second request as yet.
What should I do?
should I allow this in good faith?
can someone tell me is this the norm?
