Ok, I have now found her aged 59 when she died in 1953. As you have said there are no births for a Bertha Elizabeth Walsh for the correct period but perhaps she was just registered Bertha. Possible death for Edward

Name: Edward Walsh
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1860
Year of Registration: 1916
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
Age at Death: 56
District: Chorlton
County: Lancashire
Volume: 8c
Page: 949

You may need the 1911 census!!

Did you say you can't read the address on the marriage certificate. Could it be Holdings Cottages?

Best Wishes

Jane

Could the marriage certificate say Spendmore Lane?

Hi Jane, the news about Edwards death was a tremendous help (sounds a bit morbid !!), and I really do appreciate what you have done, infact I'm over the moon, but as you say I will need the 1911 census. As for Spendmore Lane, nothing I'm afraid on that. But Holdings Cottages is the correct one.
Once again Jane, you really have been a 'gem' and many, many thanks.. Take Care.. John
