Hi everyone, sorry for the delay in replying. Was waiting to hear back from the lady I am trying to help. I have told her she needs to get the birth cert. for this Ellen. Not sure she is following the right family. She is saying about some link with Wales but there is another Ellen Maud Speddy on free bmd born in 1909 in Anglesey. Still can't make out where she is on 1891 census, unless it is Eleanor. All her info on 1891 seems to fit.

Yes, it is confusing when people take things from censuses without seeing the original. A b cert would be very helpful. I certainly dont rely on things I find on the internet. I check things out at the LDS with microfiche of the 1891 census (the book was photographed, so is 'original') or films which I have ordered in, once again photos of the original, or I get certs.

Hi Huia,

I think she was working from another Speddy family who they thought Ellen belonged to. This other family had children Frank age 7 and John age 9 in 1891, but Ellen couldn't have belonged to them as both Franks birth and Ellens were in the same qtr but not same page no.

Maybe I have gone off completely wrong, the only way to be sure is to get Ellen's birth cert.

Perhaps her mother was a Marshall, like Jane. That would make her a sister of Jane.

Don't know how she is related, thought Jane may have been a Speddy before marriage but this looks like the marriage

Ah, she is under a different surname on Ancestry.
I wonder if Jane Tyson is an aunt?

If I had the time I could look at all the microfiche for Lancaster/Lancaster to find the families, but it would be a big job and I generally go to town only once a week, the LDS rooms are only open in the mornings 10-12 (well evening as well but I have choir practice) and I have a lot of other research to do.
You need somebody who has spare credits on this site to look at the image. I have never bought any.

She certainly doesn't come up on Ancestry.
The Frank and John R are in one family and Jane And William H in another, so where is Eleanor?

At least her surname wasnt Smith. That would have been impossible.

Found her on Records but blowed if I can find her on Ancestry.

Also on the list for those b 1881-87 were Jane 5 (possibly mother died giving birth to her?), Frank 7, John R. 9, William H. 10.
I dont guarantee these are all in the one family.
You could look for older children by putting in a different b year, or making it +/- 10 yrs.

Go to Records, then click on 1891 census, then type Speddy into the surname box and 1884 into the y.o.b with +/- 3 yrs. It brings up a list, among which you should find Eleanor.

Now you just need somebody to look at the image.
