Thanks, Robin, They are always out there somewhere - I guess I'll never know what happened to him - must have been relatively ok to have got married. Hope I can trace more details of Mary - she must have had a pretty bad time. Cheers, Tricia

Hello, again. Remember the missing Samuel Baxter and Mary?? Well, Barbara Bateson checked the 1871 census and this is what she found - 1871 - Pauper lunatic asylum Snenton, Nottingham Samuel Baxter 45 married, lunatic, labourer born Mansfield Notts. Makes you feel like crying! It must be him. And it does explain why I keep finding Mary and her son in Derybshire with no sign of him. Maybe she called herself widow to save face. So he could well be in this institution in 1851 and 1861 - what do you think? And how can he be a stonemason, married with a son one minute and a lunatic the next? I suppose the term lunatic covered a multitude of things in those days including nervous breakdowns - no funny pills. Go on,Robin, make me feel a bit better about it, please. Tricia

Hi Robin. I've followed up Elizabeth Harris' birth in Bottesford and found her parents and her siblings via IGI, but I'm sitting here in disbelief as her mother is a Clark - the 6th Clark/e line I've got, including Clark's marrying Clarkes. I married a Smith and he's the only one in the family! Thanks again Helen

Thanks Robin. You're a star. This is the first info I have that Elizabeth Harris (Hallam) didn't come from Nottinghamshire - and the first mention of daughter Hannah. Helen

Hi Robin. Are you still doing look-ups. You've looked up this family for me before. I'm still trying to pin down Daniel and Elizabeth Harris. You found them on the '41 census for me at Cotgrave, but I have no more sightings of them. Their son Francis is still in Cotgrave in 1881. Son William married in Tideswell in 1862, but he wasn't there in '61. Also, any Hallams in the West Bridgford area? Can yuo help me again please. Thanks Helen

Thanks Robin, This is getting quite interesting. My great grandfather was born in 1852 so I suspect that inbetween then and 1861 Samuel has 'disappeared' and Mary has re-located to Derbyshire with son. I doubt if they had any other children - will you post a message when you get 1851?? Many thanks, Tricia

Hi Rosemary I cannot find Soloman 1861 in Southwell or Rolleston areas, Pieces 2470/2472. I assume that he is still single and will be working on a farm somewhere. I will do a bit more checking in the area.
