Hi Keren, I searched both All Saints and St Mary Rotherhithe. The only entry I found for a Hoadly was one baptism entry as follows: St Mary, Rotherhithe HOADLEY, Anne Janet, baptised 1 March 1868, dau of Thomas Samuel and Janet Amelia (Ref: 4586) Well this looks like the baptism for your Annie. Different mother though. Maybe Sarah was Thomas Samuel's second wife?? Regards Tina

Many thanks for having a look. I've often wondered if he remarried because on some census info it gives her birth as 1857, which would make her only 10 when the first child was born. Thanks for the one you found though. Keren

Tina Report 20 Sep 2004 13:32

That's OK Keren. Did you know there's a marriage on Free BMD for Thomas Alfred Hoadley? Thomas Alfred Hoadley - Dec 1886 - Shoreditch - 1c 179, married either Ann Martha Jolly or Ruth Emily Sheppard. Tina

Hi Tracey, Yes, I have found some of them in the St Mary registers. Baptisms as follows: Albert Shaw - 3 Oct 1858 son of George Robert & Annie Eliza (Ref: 8520) Mary Ann Shaw - 1 July 1860 dau of George Robert & Annie Eliza (Ref: 8530) Annie Eliza Shaw - 31 Mar 1862 dau of George Robert & Annie Eliza (Ref: 8521) Ada Jane Shaw - 4 Oct 1863 dau of George Robert & Ann Eliza (Ref: 8519) Note it says Ann Eliza and not Annie Eliza for Ada's baptism. I could find no marriage for George & Annie in either St Mary or All Saints. There is a burial for an Elizabeth Shaw at St Marys. 29 April 1840 from Russell St - 85 yrs (Ref: 5886). Any good to you? There are no Shaw baptisms/marriages or burials that match for All Saints. Tina

Thank you very much tina, it confirms their births and parents for me. I have the other 2 children from the 1881 census but have been unable to find their births or christenings. Their parents marriage was in 1852 in stephney so i didnt expect that to be found. And all the above children married outside of rotherhithe. But thank you very much for taking the time to look for me Regards Tracey

Hi Jenny, There wasn't a baptism form James Grover b. 1832 Rotherhithe at St Mary but I found the following that I think belong to you: Baptisms: James George Grover 21 Feb 1847 son of James & Elizabeth Jane (Ref: 4085) Kate Elizabeth Grover 29 Apr 1855 dau of James & Elizabeth Jane (Ref: 4086) (born 1853) Sarah Frances Grover 29 Apr 1855 dau of James & Elizabeth Jane (Ref: 4087) Marriages: James Grover to Elizabeth Jane Lloyd 22 Jan 1846 (Ref: 631) James George Grover to Elizabeth Howard 10 Nov 1868 (Ref: 632) There were no female marriages for Grover & no Grover burials for St Mary. I haven't had time to check out All Saints tonight. I'll do that tomorrow. Hope this helps. Tina
