Trudy - It's no good - I admit defeat :~( Just can't see him. Even the most likely one that I found in Eye he was married and with children with somewhere else in 1901. Not found any with the 'right jobs'. Sorry, maybe someone else can see him. If I were you I would start a new thread asking specifically for help about him. This usually works on here. Good luck. Hi Trudy - sorry about this, things have been hectic and not had much time on computer this week. I've kept finding dead ends - each likely one in the earlier documents was wrong in the 1901! <1901> Anne Mills abt 1866 Barford, Warwickshire, England Daughter Leamington Priors Warwickshire View Record John R S Mills abt 1900 Leamington, Warwickshire, England Grandson Leamington Priors Warwickshire View Record Mary Ann Scurr abt 1837 Spennythorn, Yorkshire, England Wife Leamington Priors Warwickshire View Record Robert Scurr abt 1834 Middleton Scres, Yorkshire, England Head Leamington Priors Warwickshire 89 Willes Road, Ecclesiatical parish: Leamington Priors St Mary Town: Leamington County/Island: Warwickshire Country: England Well that's a start I suppose - at least I know that he wasn't living with his wife when 1901 taken. Not found a single John Mills yet that's been listed as a dairyman, just a matter of time ....

Trudy Report 2 Jan 2006 20:30

Hi Julie So sorry not to be clear with my info. My details are a bit sketchy but this is what I have. John Mills born c1869 Warwickshire or Suffolk. I do not have marriage cert but have some info from it - he married Anne Scurr (born 1865 Warwicks) on April 3rd 1899 in Leamington Priors, Warwicks - address 89 Willes Rd. John Jr was listed as dairyman and his father John Snr as a nurseryman. Anne & John had four children, Robert John (born 1900) Muriel Mary Scurr Mills (1902) Ethel Hilda Scurr Mills and Marjorie Scurr Mills (twins born 1904). John Jr seems to have disappeared sometime after the last children were born and we have been unable to trace him. My goal is to try and find him in his early life to get his parents and siblings, that's why I thought of 1871,81,91 census. I realise it is a very common name but would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks so much..... Regards - Trudy

Trudy - the challenge of working out which one is your man :~) That's why I start with the bit that I assume that you have got. Can you rack your brain and see if you can write down every detail that you know about John. I've found at least 4. Do you have occupations? The nurseryman is John the father yes? Where was he living when they got married? I'll have more time this evening....

Julie - Re John Mills - sorry but this John is not mine - my John was married to Anne Scurr in 1899. I was trying to locate him on the earlier census 1871, 81 and 91 to trace his parents and siblings. Thanks again - Trudy

Margaret Fairbairn - you have him on the 1881, but can't find him on the 71 or 91. Turns up again on 1901: Edward Fairbairn abt 1897 Gateshead, Durham, England Son Gateshead Durham View Record Elizabeth Fairbairn abt 1875 Gateshead, Durham, England Wife Gateshead Durham View Record George Fairbairn abt 1890 Gateshead, Durham, England Son Gateshead Durham View Record Georgina Fairbairn abt 1900 Gateshead, Durham, England Daughter Gateshead Durham View Record Henry T Fairbairn abt 1866 Gateshead, Durham, England Head Gateshead Durham View Record Thomas Fairbairn abt 1891 Gateshead, Durham, England Son Gateshead Durham 47 Devonshire Street Gateshead. Now the daft thing is his children are all born in Gateshead but I just couldn't see him.... Ran a search on Elizabeth in 1891 and didn't come up with anything that fitted either. Hope that helps some :~) Julie

Allan Midcalf - re Howards Okay, so we have Alfred 1849 working as a horsekeeper in 1881 married to Elizabeth 1848 in Durham with their children, which I assume you have already. In 1891 they are in Broom Durham. Alfred's a farm stuard, John's a colliery fitter and William's a railway porter. Been going in circles looking for him in earlier census'. Think that he might be in the army in 71 but I haven't been able to find Elizabeth and possibly John so can't eliminate them being together. He has a popular name and unfortunately he doesn't seem to give Bury St Edmunds as his place of birth (or if he does I just can not see it!) Looking at his skills he might be (1851) Alfred Howard abt 1849 Tuddenham, Cambridgeshire, England Son Tuddenham St Mary Suffolk View Record Hannah Howard abt 1846 Chippenham, Cambridgeshire, England Daughter Tuddenham St Mary Suffolk View Record James Howard abt 1817 Tuddenham, Suffolk, England Head Tuddenham St Mary Suffolk View Record Jane Howard abt 1822 Chippenham, Cambridgeshire, England Wife Tuddenham St Mary Suffolk Results per page as they are farm workers BUT don't take that as given. What you really need to find next is the marriage between Alfred and Elizabeth Actually that leads nicely - think that this might be them, but do have a look with free bmd and see if any of the others fit with what you know - like I say there are lots with the same name. Surname First name(s) District Vol Page Marriages Mar 1871 Howard Alfred Durham 10a 355 Linsley Elizabeth Durham 10a 355 Now, with the marriage certificate you will get fathers name and you'll be able to confirm fathers names and therefore which Alfred he's going to be. Must go to bed! yawn............... Happy new year Julie
