Might be worth £9.25.....remember, the information on the death certificate is only as good as the informant.
My mum was the informant for her mother's death and she reported her year of birth as 1889 when it was actually 1888.

Thank you so much Dea, HeyJude and Chris Ho for all the added information.
HeyJude, I have checked the deaths of all the other Ernest A Alexander born about 1892 and all their death are accounted for.
So even though the year of birth gives abt 1892, I do think that 1943 death is a possibility.
Chris Ho, the British Merchant Seaman record you posted is definitely my chap.
On the 1911 census, he was living at 128 Lyon Street, Southampton.

I am sure that this is totally unconnected but I still keep looking at it so will post just in case:
Name: Ernest Alexander Gender: Male Age: 50 Birth Date: abt 1885 Departure Date: 3 Aug 1935 Port of Departure: Southampton, England Destination Port: Montreal, Canada Ship Name: Alaunia Search Ship Database: Search for the Alaunia in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database Shipping line: Cunard White Star Limited Master: E J Rodgers Last address: 34 Lavender Gardens, Dalston E8............ Fireman.
I know he was on the 1939 census but perhaps he came back and then went out again ??
I could put more to try to justify it but I think it would be a waste of time.............
Best of luck with your efforts to find his descendants - I look forward to seeing how you get on.
Dea x

Youngest daughter married a Matthews and there's a couple of possibles for her on the Hampshire ERs. Might be worth contacting her as she would know when her father died. Be tactful though.

Sorry David, I don't see a death for Ernest either.
In case somebody else can spot something, David is looking for he death of:
Ernest Alfred Alexander born 3rd May 1886
In 1939 he was living in Southampton and just listed as Ernest (no middle name)

Thanks AustinQ
On the 1901 census, there is a Joseph G Cousens born Gosport Hampshire, so I think that birth is probably correct.
Births Jun 1886 (>99%) COUSINS Joseph George Alverstoke 2b 670
Edit: The son John George Garnett's birth was also registered under the surname of Cousins.
Births Mar 1892 (>99%) Cousins John George G Alverstoke 2b 528
I gather the parents didn't marry. Although they state on the 1911 census they had been married 20 years.
I just have a to pop out but I will get back to you in a short while.

I can't seem to find a death for Ernest.
I also can't find a birth or death for Caroline.
I have found her on the 1901 census (Parents George and Mary) but not in 1911.

Well I never!
You have figured it out for me AustinQ without me even having to ask.
Yes, that is the family I am researching. I am thrilled to discover they had four children.
Thank you, very much appreciated.
