Kevin Report 12 Oct 2013 17:43

Hey Mo/Mel
thanks soooo much everyone, it has confirmed some of my research already. Mo i can see why Louisa Hunt might also have put down the name Smith as well - was that common??? As she is recorded as Louisa Gardner ( formerly Smith ) on my nans birth certificate and that has always been a sticking point for me.
I would have said you got the parish record right Maureen and Mo but I do have a marriage certificate for them and it is dated 1889 - the ages do not correspond ( out by 3 years) but the fathers names are the same.
The main area I am stuck on is Louisa's spouse George Gardner ( I perhaps can assume his father was John Gardner- I havent been successful tracking him down
I have a potential in the 1881 census RG11 757 51 11 but I am not sure as the trail has gone cold. So again any help?
Thanks for the tip re Roots web- will defo join
It is sooo nice to know im not alone thanks again :-D

Kevin,

Who were the witnesses on the 1889 marriage certificate?

Kevin

Kevin Report 12 Oct 2013 17:55

no looking at it it cant be the one in the prison if the other 1881 census image is to be believed. I suppose what would confirm it would be a death record of Joh Gardner sometime before 1881,

Forget that last census I put up as the one for the 1861 for John and Mary Ann says he was born Sussex and it also says Mary was from Kent.
